100% made in assembler. Have fun.

Thump up! great demo..
reminds me of an amiga demo a little with TBL parts from Tint. Also FR and conspiracy parts in it.. None the less i like it!
Brainstorm must be the next best thing :D
keep it up.

thumb ups for the software rendering :D
Really really nice demo. And considering the fact of 100% ASM + Software rendering it surely deserves big thumb up! :)
a demo .. coming from north america? clearly first demo by coder.. influences are seen. but ye. okay i give thumb up for encourage to continue journey to demoworld
yea.. dont stop man. quebec scene rocks ;)
Pretty nice, especially considered its the coder's first demo. Doesn't feature any groundbreaking effects at all but it's nice to watch anyway. I don't like that the window is not moveable tho. :D Thumb for the 100% asm! I like this quote from the .nfo:
Quote:
:DThis is software rendering and 100%
assembly and I'm never doing this again, from now on it will be OpenGL and C++.
Sweet
Cool for a firstie and mad props for the assembler+software rendering. You're crazy.
nice work
Fullscreen 640x480 works in linux through cedega but the windowed version doesn't seem to work along...
The fullscreen version flickers alot, like vsynch problems (I'm sure it's a cedega problem tho).
Still, I'm impressed.

This is mad!
looks like some people took 'BRING BACK THE ONLY DEMO ART' a bit too seriously.. :D but man, this is good stuff :D
Just great!
Cool soundtrack as well!
Cool soundtrack as well!
wow :)
wow ! nice !
no comment, brilliant
crashed on the 2nd scene (the one after credits)
energetic and very well done. mad props for masochism :D
really pleasant experience watching this at the partyplace. :)
Ace tune and cool demo!
I'll download and watch again!
I'll download and watch again!
hell yeah
kicks ass really
congrats

congrats
wow! 100% assembler and software rendering? it must be hard to reach this level of quality with such 'restrictions'. two thumbs up for that!! i really liked the show even if it's not too original.
Really cool software demo and nice soundtrack!
nice one!
rather cool demo, for 1998
wait
its 2006 :P
wait
its 2006 :P
it is? thank god for being stuck in the past!
Looks quite nice but something is missing which makes this just "ok".
Not bad at all.
reading the influenced-by demo list, and the programming effort put on this babe, this deserves a huge european thumb.
In my opinion, as a demo it deserves just an ok:
not my taste of design.
usual music.

alien:
It's not a matter of getting stuck on anywhere, it's showing off skills, and this group did it.
I've noticed so many demos nowadays take advantage of gpu stuff (shaders,hlsl,glsl,cgnvidia,...), when in fact, in most cases they do not need it at all...but hey, they appear not being stuck in the past, and that's ,euh,...cool?

Nice!!
What it lacks in artistic innovation, it makes up for with excellent codework.
Yes.
Make my day!
It's nice, but nothing really mindblowing
jak eh? dont mind my silly comments will ya =)
i basically ment euhm.. what noouch said !!

alien, I said nothing, forget...do not take it personally plz.
Just my very own opinion on : doing cool things, software rendererd or not, it's not a feature, it's a need!
duffman kicked some asses here demonstrating, the forgotten fact, that all the stuff can be made in under 500k (take a look at the size of the executables, convert all the gfx to a tiny jpg) argg..the music it's on mp3 :)(( *sob*
but hey! isn't cool? it's a *fu*ck*ng success nowadays!!!!!
we all shall produce moooore!!! ;D

c00l stuff... nice music
quite cool, especially towards the end of it. A couple of butt-ugly parts in the begining and not particularly interesting music prevents the tumb-up for this nifty piece coder-pornography
for software rendering...
/me kisses your assembler
Respect for doing a software rendering demo.
Respect for doing a software rendering demo.
ubercool demotrip!
How could this one end up 8th and Traction one 1st?
wicked
What Gargaj said, plus I like the spherical track done by Mice in this debut.
Not very good really. It's very unoriginal, there are a few polygon glitches, it looks and sounds quite bland, it's in low resolution and it's not very smooth.
I just felt like I'd seen this demo many times before, only much more polished.
I just felt like I'd seen this demo many times before, only much more polished.
Hey this fuckin ruled. How the hell did it end up at 8th place? And why cant I remeber seeing this on the big screen, I was there god damnit.
We never learn, heavy boozing during or AFTER the demo compo...not BEFORE....faaaahk.
We never learn, heavy boozing during or AFTER the demo compo...not BEFORE....faaaahk.
some scenes could have used some better textures but on the whole quite nice. lots of effects keep it interesting.
ooh just read the .nfo. very nice work for first demo! and thanks for the thanks :)
Masochism rules!
The joy of party organizing has erased my whole memory from the demo compo :( can't even remember anything from this when seeing the screenshots, so I guess I have to see it again before rating.
trace/tft: I bet the reason for the results is the usual: namevoting / drunkness / whatever..

for the "OOH! it's done in assembly, it's so cool! *fapfapfap*" attitude. guess it was an ok demo tho
Couldn't get it running in fullscreen mode (probably because I'm using X-mouse, a lot of demos seem to dislike that), but it sure rocked in windowed mode. This would've been considered quite ok even if it wasn't done in software and assembler! Extra thumbs for the effort (which is what really counts, after all):
ugly textures and colors here and there. but some goodlooking scenes and neat music saves this demo from thumb down
Quite cool and certainly for a first demo. Quite nice soundtrack aswell. It definately needed more work on the visual side of things though (textures, design, colorchoice,...). But very promising for a debut :o)
must have been hard work but did nothing for me, sorry.
now, you're missing the whole point of the demoscene ps :(
great stuff, deserved a higher rank imo. plain awesome for a first-demo.
Definitely a "rulez" albeit I don't like the fact that the demo would be any better if it's made in BASIC, C, ASM or some other language of your choice because it is not.
ranked : 1st
A decent demo. The place it got in the compo kind of makes you think about the inner workings of the Norwegian scene. It's time to say fuckings to funprods, guys!
Oh yeah - thumb.
did deserve a lot higher ranking. looked great on the bigscreen. But I guess all the boozing made us forget how demos looked etc etc etc.
thumb up for software rendering :)
Excellent code. Not so excellent color scheme, which in itself rules (:
No it didn't deserve better than 8th, how the hell else was it going to get so much attention? If it was 2nd or 3rd no one would bother opening a 'ZOMGTHESENCEISDEAD' thread (:

Nice code I guess, but I wouldn't know anything about that as I'm not a coder. So thumbs up for code and amount of work, thumbs down for ugliest color scheme I've seen in a while, forgettable design which has been seen in N other demos already and boring average demopop music.
easy thumb up. cool last scene
likes.
Thumbing down this stuff deserves a thumb down. The demo itself deserves a pure thumb up. Softwarerendering still rules. And if you think it doesn't, first think about TBL stuff on Amiga. True coding/demomaking talent doesn't need anything else...
I like it, I suppose it's one of the few demos of the past few years that is about as crazy, or more crazy than Croissant 9, codewise.
So you have my sympathy :)
So you have my sympathy :)
truely deserved a better ranking
Brilliant stuff. Looks great, sounds great!
what duckers said.
Well polished and written in asm - who cares about the music then? ;)
Hard to believe that this is a beginner prod! =)

awesome! Assembler = respect!
impressive :)
wow. great one! should have won! i would be so proud if i could do all this in asm!
massive kudos from germany!
massive kudos from germany!
100% assembler and software rendering, eh? Well, I liked it.
lo res trip :)
No thumb down because of supportive reasons (sw rendering, first demo...) but definitely not what I enjoy watching or listening to.

yeah, doing this in 100% asm and software is impressive, but what good does it do? (and i ask that purely from the point of view of someone viewing the production). what you're left with is a dated looking prod in a low resolution. the design is fine though, if a little unoriginal.
100% asm and software rendering and what not.
bah.
next time spend somet ime doing it with STYLE.

i'm with parapete
Okay, like others said, it wasn't the most original demo ever. Nor does it claim to be.
And though impressive, with the huge CPU power we have today it's not exactly a *huge* achievement either.
BUT: why go to OpenGL? You obviously like software rendering, so why not push the art further? Very few people in the scene are exploring this area. I'd love to see what kind of cool new things can be done in software, that we just haven't thought about the last few years being busy with 3D accelerators.
I've always had a soft spot for software rendering, not just because i admire the code, but also because if done right it doesn't have the seams that OGL/D3D rendering seems to have - most 3D accel demos lack that coherent smoothness, it's more like a bunch of effects you can visibly see have been pasted on top of each other.
Anyway, no need to torture yourself with pure asm ;), but there's nothing wrong with rendering in software.

The music totally ruined the experience and the design was so traditional straightforward that i almost fell asleep. Some of the effects was nice though.
hey, i never thought someone would do such stuff in assembler! very cool, and definetely something to be proud of, for a first product! there are some flaws here and there, like the cubes look kinda "unstable", there's a general feel of unoriginality here and there, and the overlays conflict with the effects at some points, but all in all, duffman, this is something you will be able to look back onto and not be ashamed - and this is a good thing, because with most "first products" it's not the case. :)
oh, and the infofile finally contains a logo by speedevil which i really like =)
I'm with nagato nagato^! Keep it software rendering please!
Interesting work. It obviously contains many references. It's kind of an "Oldschool" tribute to many great accelerated demos...
So it deserves attention. Originality was not the goal there, I think the coder was rather looking for challenge. And I really DO appreciate this state of mind.
So no wonder : thumb up !
Oh, and Nagato has a point : 100%ASM is something truely interesting in those accelerated times.

nosfe > you meant with NOISE, don't you ?
guardian: hardware accelerated noise FTW of course ;)
Assembler and software. Well, whoopdeedoo.
There's a couple of neat touches to this release, but it honestly looks like a very minor upgrade from ye olde 1998 demos -save for the 640x480 "upgrade". Thanks for making Dutch Color Scheme less dutch, i guess :)

Fast and smooth. Made in ASM!!! First production. Respect!!
Critics; Borring music and a bit empty.
Critics; Borring music and a bit empty.
Nope.. uggly collors dull music.. at all not a very good demo
Next time, if you want to earn respect with a software-rendered 100% asm demo, I hope you choose the platform and/or size class a bit more wisely :)
it is done with style, perhaps not all enjoy the style but I do, atleast once in a while
Very good for a first demo, and especially for pure asm and software rendering. As to whether it was totally pointless doing it in asm + software, depends on your point of view... some look at a great painting and see a great work of art, others think it's pointless when a photo would do the job better and in seconds instead of years... Personally, it's something I like to see.
Thumb for nice first demo and wicked choice of language... Coding demos in assembler on a pc today with a software renderer as a first demo deserves a thumb!
software vs. hardware, asm vs. basic; who the fuck cares
I care... ;D
The linux port isn't of much use to me without X support.
And by the way, WHERE'S THE SOLARIS VERSION?
I'm gonna go the Paula Abdul way and say "You look stunning up there - your fans still love you" and thumb this one up... ;)
Looks great, and big plus points for software rendering and assembly.
great stuff
IF YOU ARE GOOD AT ASSEMBLER THEN MAYBE YOU CAN CODE AMIGA, WANNA JOIN FAiRLiGHT AMiGA ONLY?!!?!

Me likes... Looks very good, music is okayish but doesn't hurt so...
Cannot get it to work on linux...
=)
Nice effects and I really like Mice's tune, but I'll keep my thumb in my mouth, so there's no self-voting :-)
It´s so 1996. /me likey likey!
I thought this would be top three. I also though it was hardware rendering. Maybe it was played at a stage when everyone was too tired or a bit fed up with watching demos or so .. I was atleast :) Deserves a thumb. I like the text-effects and the lazertunnel.
Ran really slick on my older P3. Definitely has that mid 90's feel to it. Which is great for my tastes. Music matches perfectly. The text in/out transitions are a nice touch. And who doesn't like tunnel zoomers!!! :)
Many nice things on this one. Good sync. And the discoball, oh yeah :)
Yes! Some colors were just awful but overall demo was just great. Nice spirit in there
ASM+Softrendering+such nice visuals demo = Something really rare in the scene => Major Thumbs Up!!!
An Instant Favorite, Kicks Total A@@!!, Love the multi-colored grid pattern.
One of those demos I want to keep on my hard drive. Especially liked the plasma effect as background:)
software & assembler :)
get some coders who are not affraid of using up to date skills ;)
nice... I order more ;)
SW rules, dont give in to the dark side!
god, watched it again, pleeeeease do another sw demo, god damned dude this shit rox!!!
ABSOLUTELY DIVINE !!!
Old school demo! Some scenes were neat. I didn't like the overlays though. Music was decent. It should had been in higher resolution.
Nice, cute scenes
Respect for doing it fully in Asm....
Respect for doing it fully in Asm....
That last effect, man!
Great One, very nice :)
massive respect duffman!
Great demo, fast and accurate rasterizer, no shimmering or gaps like so many other software rendering demos, all in all an excellent job.
I guess it must have been fun coding the whole thing in assembly, but the fact that portability is severely limited that way makes it a bad thing in my book.
Anyway, I only managed to watch it on some guy's windows PC. Making a UNIX demo without using the X window system is pretty useless. I thought I could attempt an X11 port but then I found out that you didn't actually release the whole source code... why?

very cool. software rendering and damn great effects really deserves a thumb up!
i have free hugs for you.
respect to duffman!
Respect!
Nice for an assembly demo :)
Is this totally softrendered? It doesn't run at all on my laptop, which in my experience is a sign of possible GL use, if there's no 3D acc. (Laptop: PIII-650, no 3D acc.)
what's the error message?
really nice code
Nice work Duffman, this is great.
I have a soft spot for effect like the one in the lower right screenshot..
hardkore. instant thumb.
lol @ mirrored BMP files in data folder. for easier displaying purposes me guesses ;)

Just installed windows on my macbook yesterday and was finally able to see what all the fuss was about. (as i can't really remember that much from the compo) ...and I didn't quite remember this being THAT fugly
Nothing tremendously original but some good scenes & effects nonetheless, and a pretty good soundtrack. So, the demo itself is above average IMO. Now, considering that it's software, 100% ASM and a first prod ... it's just brillant.
pretty average style and colors. Asm + software rendering is quite irrelevant today...
jesus it is boring in december for the scene. If that demo was out in April I don't think it would get more than 10 comments.
Well ok ok it has its moments so...

Duffman: Yes, that's the problem, I'm lacking 32-bit on my laptop.
I watched the demo on a modern computer (P4-3 GHz) and I liked what I saw. However, it didn't seem to find any of the files, alas no music and no textures.
Frankly, this demo has to complain more when it fails!

I must have missed something at some point... If technical aspects (and technical challenges for that matter) are not interesting anymore in the demoscene, Pouet admins should probably better remove all categories and just allow to post videos as "wild". Oh wait ... that's a cool idea! I'm half-tempted to launch such a service. It could be named "youspace", "mytube", or something... That could actually work!
Ok, ok, enough rambling. I realize that it's not exactly your point anyway. ;-) But my point is that it's not just about "how cool it looks" (because we don't really care at all whether it was computer-generated or not in that case) but also about "how it was done" or "what's under the hood".
knox: Some care some don't. I'm on the side of just caring about the audiovisuals and giving a weak plus for some technical details.
Right. I guess I was in a bad mood when I wrote that, actually. :)
The thumb is for the fact that it's hand made assembly code with software rendererer that generates something decent looking.
Now well, the demo itself would got a piggy :)
Now well, the demo itself would got a piggy :)
during the compo, i sadly didnt realize that this was a firstprod for the coder and that it was software rendered. i would have voted for it.
i dont like the music. horrible textures and design flaws. The coder saves it from a thump-down!
you obviously know how to code, and have huge potential!

nice but everything in it has been done a 1000 times before.
really good for sw-rendering, but it left me with a black screen and a reachout for the reboot button, so no thumbs up...
well...looks good, sounds good, but absolutely every scene in this demo was done by somebody before
this nice! asm 4ever! and this real democoding!
Wow. That's the best PC demo I've seen in a while. But hey, "mad props" for ASM and SW rendering? HELLO? *points to Amiga scene*
Anyway, this has some great qualities, and apparently a US demo so yay! We finally got to them. Also mad for a first production, even though that "Solaris" logo looked like a penis.

Good start. Suburban (group) colorscheme/fx also.
even if the gfx aren't superior, it's still a good tune and well coded demo with some neat tricks. good stuff.
Well coded though it wasn't so visually appealing. I guess most of the effort went in the engine, which is really nice, but the visuals side suffers from it.
Good one, technical level a bit lower than expected, but still nice :)
pure ASM and soft rendering
2000-ish ogl demo, minus the ogl and plus the aliasing.
Wonderful (I guess) codework + ugly colours + bad soundtrack =
Thumbup of course ! 100% assembler is quite the same as 100% japanese for me so respect.
This is crazy! A first demo, and it's all in assembly and software rendering 0.o
Lovely tune and a great demo!
Lovely tune and a great demo!
Nice one, esp. the end. Only thing i noticed on the downside was the music not fitting to the optics imho.
The music is good, but too fast in some screens and too slow in others. Anyway its nice.

No words...
sw, asm? amazing
Software is the shit!
8th?! what the fuck is wrong with you norwegians?!
Great, it would be nice when you could upload the libraries, please!
o shi
needs moar hires! but yeah, really awesome for software rendering :) nice gfx and cool soundtrack.
Pretty nice, and extra thumbs for sharing the source. (not that i would know what to do with it)
nekrothumb !
my favorite from this party!
Good.
Woow!
Software rendering and assembler, please dont' cave in to opengl and c++ Duffman ;)
nice effects. software rendering rulez.
