- hi guys,
thanks for voting and the discussions started here. I still thought that my 1k will get flamed and its really funny to me, to see how you guys are voting and what you think about the "tricky way" to play music in a 1k intro.
You are saying its cheating but i dont think so. I think cheating would be something like d/l a tune from the web and play then or something like this, what is not on your HD before.
I am just only using a XP OS component (the wma tune). When saying this is an illegal point to use this OS component (available on any XP system), so what about using the API stuff (Win32, DX, OGL) where people just call OS graphic/sound functions?
However have you ever thought about some top voted 4k intros on pouet, where the coder is using the GM.dls (a system dll) and extracting the waves from this dll to play music, insteed coding a real synth? If this is legal, so i dont see the different using the GM.dls or using the wma tune (both are system components).
To be clear, i didnt broke any BP compo rulez and the entry was not disqualified.
But its really nice to see how and what you guys are thinking about the tricky way using a wma tune in my first 1k intro and what is legal and where it stops.
Personally i think the intro is ok for a first 1k intro and a lot people got the "oha, wtf" effect when they have seen this prod the first time and listening to the tune.
To the people saying the intro could be done in 256 or 512 bytes... ok, possible you can... But i dont like to code for DOS, we have 2008 and so the 1k intro is a Win32 executeable file with a resolution of 640x480 in 32 bit with a messagebox and music ^^
