- demo Java godog by Komplex [web]
- Offering a view of human ascension to deity, a deity they have themselves created from their own image in order to explain what they do not understand, with the help of science and technology. This is what godog is about and the message is carried in both visual symbols and "scene poetry" that is above the average but does reveal that english is not the authors' native language. (My writing certainly does too)
Godog is also high in style. Colours are selected with care and translucent imagery flashes by in multiple layers refining the experience as has been common in later Komplex demos. There are some great effects, the whole introductory part with the komplex logo and the figures reminiscent of crop circles brilliant in their simplicity. The structure that looks like three spines welded together emitting shining blue. And of course one can't forget to mention the fantastic track by Erik Lyden that so well goes along with the theme and is definitely worth listening on it's own.
Even the parts that are more typical in nature have a distinct flavor. My favourite metaballs is a race between this and Hyperventilation and nice & interesting colours and symbols give the pure object parts what they need.
It's not just a great Java demo. It's a great demo, period. And as an added bonus we can enjoy it on any platform with a JVM handy, for years to come. - rulezadded on the 2006-04-15 22:10:36
- demo Windows Embryonic by Alpha Millenium Crew
- As thom said, the translucent red "model" parts are just an ugly filler, the rest is better but nothing mindblowing, really. You could compare the excitement to looking at a LOTTO-machine do it's thing. However, this does look like there was a solid concept behind it and things stay consistent which is always nice. Too bad that final seems to never have surfaced.

- demo Windows RTR by apocalypse inc [web]
- Total lack of design and terrible colours kill it. The 2D art is different, too bad it doesn't fit in with anything else. Modeling, music and code are fine.

- demo Windows 954 by apocalypse inc [web]
- I prefer this to 232, the music is more fitting and there's no electric guitar or cartoon mushrooms. The colors are better and the scenes more imaginative.
That said, it does go on for far too long to maintain interest and I dislike the WinAmp visualization plugin type blur effects. Of course being the kind of demo it is, design and colours (!) are all over the place.
Kind of like it, definitely among the best of the psytrance demos. - isokadded on the 2006-04-14 14:14:32
- demo Windows k-wak by K-rad Productions & The Dennis Courtney 5
- Sweet. Great idea with the spin/sync on the camera, excellent music from no other than basehead and the style has same kind of appeal as does te-2rb. Great ideas with the effects, very novel twists on otherwise very familiar ones and a few new to boot. Transitions are spot on as well, no lack of imagination there.
On the negative side the first landscape scene has an unreadable scroller on the surface and the part ends up looking rather chaotic but the effect itself is something nice and unexpected. The final part has kickass transitions but not enough effects and the "object" is the least fresh one in the whole demo. Briefly showing all the previous ones seems a little forced.
For some reason this one gives me a very music video like feel while looking nothing like that. I think we'll be watching this for many years to come. - rulezadded on the 2006-04-14 13:35:04
- demo MS-Dos rebel? as perceived by Complex [web]
- ricky lake: I watched it a zillion times as well but with 21 ratings it certainly isn't the among the best known on pouet, I think that's the only number we have for familiarity...

- demo Windows MacOSX PPC the demoThing by Spöntz [web]
- What we have here is yet another Spöntz demo with some really nice work in the coding department but it's a mishmash of styles and colours. There's easily three different demos to be done here if you'd just stick to a single theme and didn't close your eyes when picking the colours. That may sound a little harsh but you just got some insanely cool effects here and it's such a shame to see them go to waste.

- demo Windows MacOSX PPC MacOSX Intel Space Invaders by Spöntz [web]
- Lots of ugly invaders & lack of consistency. Going with the style of the greets part would make a basis for a good demo. Ancient game references and the credits style was fun too and the pictured explosion looked pretty nice as well but that's about as much positive things I can say about this one.
If you want space invaders, I'd say go with Insert Coins instead of this. Unless you're on a mac in which case I'd say forget the invaders and go get something else from Spöntz. :) - sucksadded on the 2006-04-13 21:33:28
- demo Windows MacOSX PPC MacOSX Intel ReBoRn by Spöntz [web]
- I don't see what's so cool about compiling everything in a single file. Frequently people are going to want at least the song so... And why not let the filesystem do what it's supposed to?
On to the demo then. It promises, but doesn't deliver. Everything is fine until the guitar appears and after that it's very average. Not that the code is, there's some great action going on in that department but the presentation is sub-par.
For example, when the great-looking particles appear right after the guitar, they only cover a horizontal line across the middle of the screen which neither shows off the effect well nor in a new way. Also the idea of first drawing the vertexes, then a wireframe and rendering the rest is good but isn't used to it's full potential at all. The variformish objects are nice looking but the colors fit the rest poorly and it's nothing new.
Last but not least the soundtrack fails to go anywhere and I really don't think electric guitar works well with the other part and even that seems like a single really short loop instead of a full several minute song. You've also recycled the credits decoration style and unfortunately it's one that doesn't appeal to my personal tastes much. Still waiting for the real mindblower from Spöntz... - sucksadded on the 2006-04-13 21:20:31
- demo Windows MacOSX PPC MacOSX Intel The LifeWay by Spöntz [web]
- Actually, this one is pretty nice, just underwhelming. Smooth and consoling music and visuals. The particle effect used for 2D is of course a very old idea, but goes well with the style except for the credits etc. that are stylized with lines, I think you should've gone with different stylizing.
Another thing I find bad about this are the particle trails that once again are in colors chosen from different sides of the palette and the lake part where said trails are very far away from the camera and fail to do anything interesting at all, that one seems to last forever.
All said, it's a nice watch but not as good as the Automatic Dream. - isokadded on the 2006-04-13 19:09:38
