- Sublime design by Fthr, probably the best in the scene. But, its Notch and a bunch of downloaded assets, so piggie.

- Good stuff, refreshing and nice to see a proper demo with its own solid engine, good mix of effects and well executed art all packaged nicely together in a cohesive manner!

The industrial-ish visuals don't fit at all with the psytrance music, but that's already been covered well by Mr. Psychic Symphony above (aka "what ps said").
Perhaps, I certainly went to plenty raves in industrial setting in my youth though :) Also, one big inspiration was an incredible DJ set with Ellen Allien surrounded by big screens in an old warehouse. But the rest of your feedback is valid to me. - isokadded on the 2021-10-14 16:52:21

purely asking you out of curiosity and not as a negative criticism: what in that genre made you think tech backgrounds and freestyle dancer?
To be honest, the idea with the room and monitors came first, as we wanted to have a timer counting down in the background. We did not plan having a dancer at all, but when Stalvik decided he wanted to implement an IK system into our engine, I thought putting together some kind of dance would be cool. The actual dance is what it is, could it been better, maybe, so could the entire demo. So can all demos, they can always be improved. But we are happy with what we ended up with, especially considering how quick it was put together and we had lots of fun doing it. - isokadded on the 2021-10-12 18:29:47

bossman: i think the music is well produced, that's not on the table as an issue. i just see no relation from that genre with these visuals, just felt like "hei, we need sound, how about good old psytrance? sure!" and no extra thought put into finding something to match the actual visual content. atleast for me psytrance/goa is about a journey/trip. i would also hate to see the obvious tunnel and shrooms references indeed, for it's been done to death and is also cheesy as hell imho; but a room full of technological stuff and a mockup guy freestyling doesn't really fit psytrance. atleast not for me, but if it worked for others, cool, glad you enjoyed the demo. sorry for negative criticism, just pointing out what i would change to make it cause big demoshock to japanese brain.
To be fair here, the music came first and I made the visuals afterwards. And yes, I tried avoiding the obvious stereotypical stuff. So if there is a disconnect between visuals and music, thats on me. I did not want to change the music as I loved the tune. - isokadded on the 2021-10-12 17:56:05

- I felt a bit burnt out after Umbra and as didnt really feel like starting something ambitious again, I suggested doing something "small and quick" first, something that would take a couple of months at most. I did not want to make a lot of content again (like Umbra) so we thought doing something like a 1 minute demo with one scene would be fun.
We came up with the idea of a room with a timer counting down, showing like one or two effects during that time. But, as always, things dont turn out as planned. As we started, we got into it more and more and ended up with a whole slew of new improvements to our internal engine (Chucky). Stalvik, awesome as always, implemented things like SSAO, SSR, bone animations etc and I think I ended up creating more art than in all of the other Deadline demos combined. And yes, even the monitors were new, no recycled content here, whats the fun in that? But I did think it would be fun to include monitors as a nod to Laevitas, since this ended up being a bit of a thematic successor to it.
And maybe the music is "cliche", but it was kind of what we wanted and Mygg delivered a banging awesome track as always.
Huge thanks to everyone who voted for and liked Tempus, we love you! <3 - isokadded on the 2021-10-12 17:23:58
