- @Blast!: To expand a bit on bodo's answer, yes, it's probably 'b' (the back porch part of the horizontal blanking interval) where this happens, or at least the better part of it.
Apparently, the CRTC variants where this works do not enforce output of black around the HSYNC signal, and still emit pixel data with appropriate register settings.
The monitor seems fine with that (looking for HSYNC only), and happily outputs these pixels during horizontal flyback. - isokadded on the 2022-10-12 10:57:57
