- Someone has obviously been harvesting my homepage for potential glöpping material. I'm surprised this made the cut. :P
The routine was written in about 6 hours, so don't expect any killer visuals. - isokadded on the 2005-04-11 01:53:26
- demo Amiga AGA Atari Falcon 030 Ocean Machine by The Black Lotus [web]
- The final version is out. Currently it's available at ftp://mirror.support.nl/pub/tbl/download/amiga/tbl-oceanmachinefinal.lha, but it should also show up at www.scene.org & the breakpoint FTP soon.
A video with the original 256kbit/s MP3 soundtrack and all fx running at 25fps is available at ftp://mirror.support.nl/pub/tbl/download/movies/TBL_-_Ocean_Machine_(non-realtime_DivX5_640x400).avi; given some luck (and a bribe if necessary), robotriot might make a realtime capture.
drdoom/psycho: looking into the code, it turned out that the dancing girl's interpolation code was broken and would stutter at some framerates; this should be fixed now though. Thanks for the heads up.
bartman: while most of the demosystem has been ported to build as a native Win32 application, some major parts are still missing. The sound decoding/mixing and the rasterizer backends contain a fair bit 680x0 assembly and there are no C versions of those piceces of code. Additionally, there is usually a bit of new assembly code for each part in the demo (usually some sort of image compositing or postprocessing filter). Making a working, native Win32 build out of the demo is thus not as easy as pressing a button yet. Making a video is easier and more cross-platform compatible, and our current opinion is that the visual result of a 640x400x25fps video is good enough. - isokadded on the 2005-04-11 00:45:07

- The demo does indeed show some signs of being rushed (for one thing, it is very crash prone on some machines) -- once I get back home I'll look into making a final version of it.

- demo Amiga AGA Atari Falcon 030 Silkcut by The Black Lotus [web]

- sir garbagetruck: not to worry, those Germans who subconsciously believe (or maybe is it just their humour?) that yelling "FICKÖNNN!" through their loudspeaker setup at maximum volume really is a good idea are way more annoying ;)
dubmood: The 12MB datafile is mainly due to the zoomer (3MB) and the bones-animations (approx. 3MB) taking a lot of diskspace. We didn't have the time to properly trim down their size.
The code and the visuals for the intro sequence was put together entirely during an 8-hour run on the morning of the demo deadline...
... and people, don't blame Steffo for discontinuities in the music. When developing the demo, the visuals dictated the music, not the other way around. (We drove Steffo half insane with our constant change requests, it took nearly 40 iterations before the tune reached its final version...)
Personally, I'm quite happy with the demo. It seems to me a bit more polished than our previous demos. My main gripe is (as seems to be the case for many other people here) with the flow. 3 minutes main part with two logo breaks in-between will inevitably make the demo (and especially the music) feel quite chopped up.
O, and this is the first year that we actually have proper Z-clipping in our 3d engine. Now that's about bloody time :P

- demo Amiga AGA Perfect Circle by The Black Lotus [web]
- We were kind of hoping that people would appreciate other parts of the demo too, such as the forest zoomer and the shadowcasting balls.
At least the Polish crowd yelled "Animation" at the wrong part of the demo :)
8MB diskspace is a PITA when doing those zooms, by the way - we had to cut down a lot on the lighting information in the forest zoomer :/
