category: code [glöplog]
Thing probably created an OGL context across the entire desktop space?

Gargaj: I don't know what you mean by "my latter two points"; I disregarded all points in your previous post as FUD. So only the imaginary problems are left the way I see them, and I'm not going to inconvenience myself due to things that aren't real problems.

let's flip it around then - why is dualscreen more convenient than cloning? :)

Democompos - an exact science where there isn't another way to do it!

On a complete sidetrack but since "you're here" anyways, kb_, did you run Revision's 32k executable music compo on the compo-machine or was a less powerfull PC used? Not that it matters all that much now, but i've been curious ever since ;-)

I can't even remember whether we played the songs live or used pre-rendered WAVs like in the other music compos... sorry. And all HDs in concern have been wiped and/or archived someplace far, so no way to reconstruct it exactly.

(didn't I apologize already for screwing up your song? :)

No need to apologize even if the problem was on compoteams part. I had a blast anyways. The problem wouldn't exist if we hadn't had the usual time-to-deadline/size issue. You did in fact apologize for playing the entry/showing the wrong slide as soon as you found out ;-)

Aaaand back on topic (sorry for the detour)

plek: yeah, i've a strong feeling it was opengl, and it was one of the early accelerated demos so I guess people weren't expecting things like dual screen setups :) Actually it was pretty cool to watch like that, but it'd really fuck up if one screen was a projector.

Gargaj: As I already stated, I find it convenient to be able to "hide the mess" (folders of contributions, clown porn etc) on a secondary monitor. But kb kind of hit the nail on the head; it's not that one way is superior to the other. It's that you disregard multi-monitor setups as useful for compo organizers, which I think is oversimplifying the problem.

As for the original topic, I'm not sure if I'm going to bother spending more time on identifying monitors more closely than I do now; it seems to work fine the way it is. Perhaps if my OCD kicks in, though...

I refined the code quite a bit (it's on StackOverflow too) but I'll repost it as soon as it's had some testing. Most importantly I made it all UTF16 (since marshalling 16-bit ID strings from and to Win functions == the way for said platform), and then some.

ttyl.
