dir j*.*
shows the folder, but
del j*.*
does nothing, as well as rd j*.*
So how do I remove the folder with the exeptionally long (and possibly illegal filename?
dir /X
rmdir /S/Q [insert short filename]
it will probably be: rmdir /S/Q JAVASC~1

this works. I promise.
Why not use the win7 file manager?
Wait, W7's command prompt still doesn't have autocomplete??

rmdir /S/Q JAVASC~1.FOR
seemed to work - thanks, I didn't know about the /X switch, pfft, nothing like good ol' WIN95...
Be warned FunGas, you'll get what you paid for here ;)
Personally I'd stick to Intrinsics advice.
Either that or boot into a live distro, mount the drive and try -
Mount point being whatever you mounted the disk as obviously. Be very careful with the folder name (I'd copypasta personally). I too am unsure why you can't just shfit+delete in explorer?

Try Total Commander.

cmd.exe has had autocomplete at least since Windows 2000 (that's the first one I used regularly) and probably earlier than that.
i like how the suggestions are still coming an hour after he fixed it :) Are you guys that slow at typing, or just that slow? :D
I wonder what this all has got to do with DOS (as indicated by the topic)?
i'm good with DOS, i treat it nicely and it pays back!
is Total Commander like Norton Commander? I can use that ;)
i'm more curious about how you got that filename in the first place :D
I leeched http://fly.to/fungas with go!zilla to make a backup.
My ISP can't figure out why I can only see .ftpquota on my FTP connection - maybe you can fix my ISP too :P

Tell them to read up on chmod ;p
Get them to setup another ftp account just incase something freaked out the 1st time they did it and see if you can still only see that 1 file, if so it's prolly a problem at your end...or there is only an .ftpquota file in your directory and nothing else :)
PS and if your gonna use a shell replacement at least let it be Directory Opus.

Yeah .. how did you get that filename?!?
directories are soooo 1995... semantic filesystems ftw!
@ringofyre SACRILEGE! :D
Those are both weak by comparison, i like being able to program DOpus todo whatever i need using the built in scripting language, i wouldn't use windows without it.

Fair call Intrinsic - pcmanfm does me (it's a bit lighter than Nautilus, w/o the scripts tho). But for pure power, grace & beauty you can't go past mc.
:P
