Hugi 27: 11 days until the deadline!
category: general [glöplog]
Hi all!
From now, it's only 11 days until the deadline for Hugi 27 (May 31st, 2003). You have less than 2 weeks left to submit your articles!
To warm you up, here's a little extract from the current list of articles:
* Simulaatio 2003 report
* Breakpoint 2003 report
* Drawing ActiveX controls into memory buffer
* Writing correct and robust JavaScript
* Memory management that makes your code size smaller
* Kill the mickeys (why computer mice are evil)
* Eugenics - some thoughts on a delicate subject
The graphics and music of this issue are going to be pretty good. Would you give away the chance of having your writings presented in such a beautiful environment?
In case you need ideas what to write about, here are some of the topics our readers would like to read about:
* Scene news, rumours, "Gossip"
* Reviews of scene productions
* Interviews with trackers, coders, graphic artists
* Demoscene on non-x86 platforms (e.g. Sega Dreamcast)
* Local demo scenes in various countries
* Outreaches of the demoscene
* Influence of past demoscene on current IT sector
* How to code 4k intros for Windows
* Source codes of existing intros along with explanations
* Vocoding (like in farbrausch 64k intros)
* Internet development (PHP, ASP; The misusage of Flash on websites; ...)
* Software synthesizers
* Graphics tutorials
* Linux (e.g. how to port demos to Linux / writeing portable demos)
* Beginner tuts (How to get involved in the scene, Basics of Tracking, ...)
* "How to get sceners to support formerly great parties" (such as The Gathering)
* Party Compos (e.g.: Are ASCII/ANSI and 4k compos getting extinct?)
* Alcohol abuse at parties
* Slengpung
* Real Life, Philosophy
So, there are plenty of ideas - now feel free to start writing!
Cheers
Adok/Hugi

Great! Is there a tutorial on how to make procedural shadebobs for Dark Basic in the next issue? :P
(It's a joke)
(It's a joke)
Here's some news. Freax has exceeded 400 pages length.
Just because the 300th page was reported by PAiN. :)

Here's some news:
* Hugi is dead.
Rest in peace!

I want Baze's tutorial for tiny intro size optimizations
Let's see:
> * Simulaatio 2003 report
> * Breakpoint 2003 report
I guess those are DiamondDie ones. IIRC they're already online.
> * Drawing ActiveX controls into memory buffer
Err.. %-)
> * Writing correct and robust JavaScript
*cough*
> * Memory management that makes your code size smaller
Mhmm, ok.
> * Kill the mickeys (why computer mice are evil)
I know that T$ has written such a text long time ago.
> * Eugenics - some thoughts on a delicate subject
Adok. :) Wasn't there a quite similar text on your (old) website? I might be wrong though...

If Adok asks help, why you just throw negative comments about Hugis? I can't see any reasons to flame Hugi, and I think it's best diskmag out there. With that kind of attitude it is sure that Hugi will die soon.
Oh well, maybe some of the subjects are quite lame, but no one forces you to read all of em.
Keep up the good work Adok

* Real Life, Philosophy
my humble wish: keep real life stuff out of diskmags.
if i want to read about the real life, i buy a newspaper.
if i want to read stories or poems, i buy a book.
if i want to read philosophy, i read 'republic' by platon, not 'pseudo-philosophic sceneshit' by dragonkiller of swordteam.
it's a noble idea to have a diskmag "reach out to the world", but there are other (and better) sources for reading articles that are irrelevant for the demoscene. this goes for a couple of other articles in the list as well, i just can't be arsed to rant about each one separately :)

i kinda agree. most sceners keep their scenelife and reallife separate.
reed: The keyword is "buy" there. Diskmags are free. Ok, so it may take you two seconds longer to download it, but besides that you aren't paying for the articles you don't read.
I bet more people read real life stuff than coding/music/gfx tutorials (respectively) since most people aren't coders, musicians and graphicians.

congratulations, diamondie, you missed the point.
ok, if i don't have the money to buy stuff, i go to a library or i surf (quality) websites. how about that?

btw, heh, coincidentally i'm now reading the mag Generation #26 online at diskmag.de. they interviewed antibyte/scoopex, who says:
"In my opinion it should be the task of a diskmag to bring information about the Scene to the reader and nothing else. If I want to read stories or lyrics, I grab a book. Most annoying to me is that diskmags write a whole bunch of stuff about other diskmags, with all their petty wars going on. If I read a newspaper, I want news, not to read about other newspapers."
(well ok, the last point isn't really valid on the pc because there's not so many mags around)

Can u make better navigation and division. hUgi has music and gfx topics piled together, in pain u need to scroll thru all the articles titles which is awkward. If you have alot of articles - you need better nevigation.
webify the magazines.
damn how can u be a scener if your scenelife is not your REAL life! scene is just quite a part of life just like all the other elements, or ofcourse you can say you're living 23 lifes too: one at home, one at work, one indoors and an another one outdoors, maybe two or three for the parents and then some for your girlboyfriend
as about mags - well - its really for news and for THE THING, there's lots more of other medium specializing on the system happenings and stories - if i am scener, i do socialize with other sceners about that stuff anyway, we all know that and i have no will reading same bullshit in a scene publication.
on the other hand scene got no rules and i bet there are zillionz of sceners enjoying what i hate so its all fine.. let'em suck if they like to :)
Hey,. I do like reading some of the real life articles! There are things that I never read, but nobody forces me to and I never said to remove these things, afteralls there are always some nice articles for each scener to read, but this wouldn cease if we started removing sections because some sceners doesn't like them..
Afteralls, I don't think that Adok will remove the real life section. And if we make a vote, I bet there will be enough sceners out there reading these sections ;)
