I was wondering what the best place/way is to watch a demo. I been watching demos at parties, home on the monitor or on TV (using TV-out) while relaxing on the couch (with a glass of fresh juice!)

Most (recent) demos look more like a music video clip, hell the musix is even better than the (idols) crap in the charts. Demos from HJB, Fr, FLT, are perfect examples of “demo/video music”. I also think that demos should be watch from a certain distance lets say five meters or so to get the best effect (just try it and you will like it!).

So my choice is the TV, wide screen 100Hz of course.

I personnaly thinck that a good old home cinema is perfect for watching demos, although I still haven't seen any using THX Ultra encoding. But please, forget your miserable TV and buy a put-the-number-of-inches-you-wisth-to-have-here plasma screen, for maximum viewing confort. A projector is great too, although a bit noisy.

More seriously, a cool 22 inches screen with a solid gf4 and good speackers are my choice. You will never find a TV providing such a great quality than a good crt monitor, and hi res and all. And you are right for the distance (even if I would say that 2 meters are enough), it is much more efficient and much less framerate-eating than anti-aliasing.

of course I prefer watching (new) demos on a party bigscreen, with friends and beer around.

I prefer watching demos on an old 14" compac-monitor while tripping on acid and having wierd sex with sheep.

Lying under the bigscreen, on the stage. That's the best. Try watching the rollercoaster from 'Toasted'...

I second tomcat.. There's just no better way of watching demos (IMHO) than lying on your back and letting the visuals fill your whole FOV.

i prefer watching demos while eyes are closed

I've only tried two ways.

- At a demoparty from bigscreen while drinking beer
- From my old 15" compaq monitor while drinking beer

It propably ain't too hard to guess which I prefer :)

i prefer salmiakkivodka over beer.

in overall demos are best watched with a good bunch of friends and some alcoholic drinks.
for best effects i'd suggest kilju and iso or mfx demos.

Nothing beats the bigscreen! Big Picture. Big Sound (on a good party at least) and most importantly: Beer, friends and the crazy applause and cheering crowd! No lame 100Hz TV can beat THAT. :D

I tried once to watch Second Reality in my home, after I was drunken with Ouzo. It was a dream. However I do not like Ouzo, I feel seek with most alcoholics dream, except beer. I would like to have the experience oneday, watching demos with scene friends at a nice demoparty and drunken with beer..

Also, definitelly not when there are other people (e.g. parents) in home and interrupt my demowatching..

Also, not under pressure, when I want to stop demowatching because I have to do another work. Usually, I am under pressure and it suxx. I have months to watch demos properly..

For bix pixel shit (C64, Spectrum, etc..) from a big distance from the monitor..

Hmm,. perhaps with closed lights and door too. Especially with some psychedelix, wannabee art, MFX, Satori or even minimalanimal stuff. Lol!!! With the intention to get crazy from these stuff!

Alone in a creepy place, watching Shad series, other satanic demos or even psychotic again, wowa!

And perhaps more. You can have emotions from demos in the diferrent ways you try to watch them, you never imagined! ;)

the minimalanimal guys should be punished by getting tied up to a chair in a square, concrete wall room, and forced to watch their demos 24/7

I enjoy watching demos the most after being awake for a good 40-50 hours, then slamming a pot of coffee and watching demos until the inevitable diarrhea comes.

And it's enjoyable diarrhea, diarrhea that is augmented by the nonstop demo-esqe images swirling through my head in simulacrum with the sphincter pulses.

I watched brainstate in a box, full blown on acid. quite a trip i tell you.

The best way to watch is in a well-lit room, sitting a comfortable distance from the screen. 25 cm should be enough.

It depends on the demo. Some rock on the Bigscreen, others show their best on your home equipment (the bigger the better ;).
And the Dialogos cinema was one of the best places for watching a demo, same goes to the nightly UC open-air demoshow.

Grab your favorite drink &| drug, turn off your monitor, chill in front of the big-screen. Dancing on the stage is optinal...
If you watch minimalanimal some sort of drug is recommended.
