This is the Redundant Technologies project at the place I work - people bring in whatever old shit they find, and it's pooled and made available to others for their projects. I found a fucking great Bontempi organ in there.
My boss recently performed John Cage's Variations VII (its first performance in Europe for decades) using hardware from this collection, and last week a particularly hardcore PAT testing guy (UK readers will know what I mean) actually went through all this shit and tested the lot. Serves him right.

Does anyone have a good hint on how to clean old computer cases and how to get the ugly yellow dust and dirt off the beautiful A1000 and 800XL cases?
After trying to get rid of it for the last two hours and cleaning like hell with almost no effect....I'm pissed! :D

had the same problem with my A500... just sprayed it matte black!

raven, in germany there's this oxygen-based stuff that is being marketed by ladies in pink shirts, i heard it works like a charm for old sun- and smoke-infested computer cases =)

I also thought of getting my good old airbrush out of the basement and give it a nice design, but then I decided I want the original look...possibly for Bitbreaker's Retrocalendar 2009/10? Who knows! ;)

If the yellowing is nicotine based pretty much any cleaner will help (some more, some less) ... a good start are plastic cleaners in general.
If it's sun based, you're mostly out of luck, even tho some people keep claiming a bath in hydrogen peroxide for a half day might give decent results (just don't ask me about the ratio between water and the chemical), while others prefer to actually re-paint them.

People in the hardware collecting business know about the yellowing effect:
It is apparently due to the fire-retardants which are included in the plastic devices. Sadly it's the plastic itself which yellows, and no amount of scrubbing or cleaning up will remove the ugly hue.
