Which is probably why most sensible teams has, like Smash said, a shader programmer (or at least some sort of code revision done by someone with optimization experience).

i wouldnt rely on that revision idea. usually gets forgotten in the density of production. having a shader supervisor on a team of tech artists sounds sensible though.

(or, ideally, create a hybrid woth the flexibility and abstraction of absolute shader code still being with the tech team)
