Here's a better idea: make a demo, take all the time you need, any plaftorm you want, and release it at breeze ;)

I just wonder how they want to make sure that the game was created in just one month's time? It seems easy to cheat.

Adok: You've missed the point. Try again!

What do I get if I win?
A complete game and a great sense of accomplishment.
Sounds a bit like a "game design 101" college assignment.

adok: true that there are ego absorbed idiots for everything out there but there isnt much point in entering a > 1 month game into a 1 month game competition. no fame and fortune involved, only blood, sweat, tears and conceptual brainstorming.
its like taking steroids to win a backyard race against your friends.

mh, is there any connection to these other indie game dev things like gamma 256 or experimental gameplay? or is it completely independent? i'm sometimes much to paranoid, but such competions could simply be used as evil trojans. send us your ideas and you'll get nothing for it... pessimistic distrust has eaten my socks ;/

if you really had a groundbreaking idea you wouldnt be spending 1 month of your time making a freeware game out of it ;)
seeing other peoples ideas can inspire new interesting ones though.

Well, if they wanted ideas or finished games they may as well crawl whole gamedev.net forum/galleries i guess.
That said, it would still be nice to know who is behind this event, some famous sceners, designers or just bunch of random guys from teh internets ?

does it matter in the end who is organizing?

Not that it would matter, i'm merely curious :)

The organiser is professor_scissors, insertcredit forum regular and creator of Zombie City Tactics (http://secretblender.blogspot.com/2006/08/brains-have-it.html)

I just support his little contest because I think it's a nice interesting challenge. Especially I like to think of it as a way to experiment with interactivity.

I also think that this contest is interesting. I've been planning to code a game for some time now. I have several ideas. At the moment I'm searching for the best possible API for implementation. I've problems installing XNA, something seems to be wrong with my configuration. For DirectX I've got a nice little sprite wrapper, but it doesn't support transparency, so I'll have to implement this myself. I've also downloaded Allegro, which is an API specifically created for game programming, but I yet have to try it. At the moment I'm checking out some source codes of games I found on the Internet in order to learn.

Broderick: Thanks.

But now I've managed to install XNA GS, so I'll first check this out.
