We do drive on the right side. The left side is the right side. The right side is the wrong side ;-)

skrebbel, stansted-exeter by bus?! that sounds scary to say the least. (zeker geen aardrijkskunde in je pakket gehad, hmm? ;))

hint: easyjet amsterdam-bristol... ;)

I will drive interested Foreigners to the party if they fly to London.

Provided I am still in London at that time. Which I should be.

Alternately, we will take the train or something cheaper. But interested Foreigners will be able to get to the party somehow. I figger this is maybe 10 folks who'll make it. Won't be a problem.

(I'm not counting folks like Rawhead/Trace/Sole/nOOgz/me in the 10, cuz we're already in the UK.)
mr tickle, stop changing nicks. you confused me :D . Good times, though...

Skrebbel, I totally disagree with you on this, but I don't want to hijack this thread just to go into it. Who do I think I am to demand it? I'm one that can see the only goddamn way we're going to get new blood and more interest in the scene. With absolutely no offence to small parties anyway, they have their place and are needed but do you really think 30 sweaty guys in front of pc's in a small hall is going to attract people? The problem is not that it's difficult to obtain sponsorship, the problem is that sceners always confuse code/zik/gfx/etc talent with real world talent. Yes, you may be fairlight/farbrausch/kewlers/kefrens etc member with "mad skills", but it doesn't mean you have an ounce of business & real world sense to get things done. There are ways to get money/sponsorship/grants etc.

Shit, why not apply for Lottery funding :) . http://www.awardsforall.org.uk/england/england_main.html

Want to get people to the party & get products submitted? Offer £5,000 first prize for democompo. £3,000 first prize for introcompo. Now how many non-UK'ers will be coming - more than 100 I bet.

Anyway if you want to discuss further why scene success often = real world failure, post a new thread and i'll be happy to be flamebait there. Otherwise let's leave this thread for Sundown ppl only. September is far away. I may come, I probably won't. You don't care :D
. Maybe Havok radio live at sundown might happen too ;)

Just thought I'd repeat this wacky quote for emphasis.
foreigners dont attend parties couz of prize money. they might deliver a prod to try and get some of it though.
so yeh it defnitly might increase compo quality, but not really spawn more attention imho ofcourse.

Good luck with the party! :)

Sucks that I'll be in the militaty during that time, because I have been planning to go to England for a summer holiday before that :/

Oops. I didn't mean I agreed with that quote. I was emphasising how wacky it is.
defbase: That quote is just so over the top! What sort of prizes do you think Breakpoint has? NO WHERE near that because the organisers understand that sceners would rather have a stomping party than shell out a lot of money for entries! But then again.. you wouldnt know because you havent attended any parties!

You really should research the subject (e.g. the scene) before you open your mouth!

A party is primarily to get sceners together, not for money, you have just demonstrated how much out of touch you are regarding the scene.

devistator, considering the email you just sent me I'm amazed you've added another comment.

Anyway as requested, I have nothing further to add to this thread. Later.

Well, if they had the party in Loughborough University, where it's near to:

a) East Midlands Airport
b) M1 - the central motorway down the spine of Britain
c) MAJOR Rail link, from St Pancras in London.
d) Huge cheap facilities...

Hang on, why am I not planning it? Look out for... errr... The Loughborough Demoparty... Coming soon!

BTW, if anyone ends up at East Midlands Airport with no way of getting to Exeter, I'll fly you there. No, really.

Try to understand where I'm coming from with this party. By design it is small and a starting point for the UK Scene to develop. I wan't to keep it pure demoscene which is certainly a leap of faith which I'm fairly confident I can succeed in to at least break even financially. I'm not looking to compete with Breakpoint or Assembly - and at the heart of it there is only me organising things.

At the end of the day, it's a grassroots party for whoever wants to come - it just happens to be the first relatively big thing to happen since Deja Vu.

If this year is a success then I can push the boat out and get a bigger venue, but for the moment I'm happy with what I've settled on and you're the only one who has criticised it. There are of course bigger and better parties out there - but you're always very welcome to come to ours.

.waffle:

Hey, why not get involved with Sundown? If it's successful, we'll only get bigger, and you're welcome to join in. :)

Plus those with travel concerns - you can travel from London Victoria to Exeter for £1. www.megabus.com

Another option for the more intrepid central europe based car-travelling scener is the Hoek van Holland to Harwich ferry. This is provided by Stena Lines, and is a quick and comfortable four hour trip across the North sea. We use this in reverse, to get to parties in Holland and Germany :-)

On the other hand, we set off from the Cambridge area, which is the right side of the country. It looks like a hell of a drive from Harwich to Exeter, which would include the M25 London orbital motorway (Bleuurgh!) Still, that is there as another possibility, if you want to bring a car and a load of people and stuff :-)

@CiH

If you want to get a ferry, try and get one that goes to dover, rather than harwich, i guess. Or take the chunnel...

hmm. 1 pound bus trip. I would imagine we can't drink on the bus, but oh well, 1 pound bus trip would be cool, we can arrange that.

We'll also have multi-million pound prizes for people who just show up, followed by long conversations about how the party has sold out and why no one should ever go to such lame events.

disclaimer: multi-million pound prizes may not actually be awarded due to their not existing. Don't tell anyone.
why wouldnt we be able to drink on the bus? :)

I don't know. I just expect this sort of oppression (:
"I've just spoke to my friend Allister Brimble (he's quite a well known game musician), he said he's coming along too." :)

just a short note, in all honesty it's quite uncertain if i'll make it to sundown. main reason for this is that i'm involved in organising a (non-demoscene) event that will end on the same day the party starts.

however, that event is organised like next door to the airport, the 41 euro return flight to stansted leaves late in the afternoon, i like english beer and the curry is 10 times better across the pond, so possibly potentially perhaps if then maybe... we'll see :-)

This will probably be discussed...

at the UK DemoScene Pub Meet!

For all that can get to London (or live within 10 miles of the M1 between J27 and J10, and I'll drive you down) it's at the Freemason Arms, near Covent Garden tube station, TODAY.

If you're outside the UK, and planning on visiting the famous pub meet in london, I seriously recommend going to the airport NOW, or you're going to miss it.
