Video Game Consoles and Computers have demos except for TV??? Why??
BSF: I'll assume you actually want to make a demo. Awesome --- I hope you make something cool :) . If you figure out a way to make the electronics in a TV generate graphics and sound of your own design WITHOUT a PC, a video game system, an antenna, or ANY other input, that will be a TV demo, and you will have my respect, at least :) .
For now, start small. Try ShaderToy or glsl sandbox. You can very easily play with graphical effects in those environments without downloading anything or learning assembly :) .
