random assburger thread

category: general [glöplog]
Hmm,. I said earlier that aspie activity has to do with my focus in a hobby. But it's the questions on aspie talent that have to do with that. I scored high in activity because I procrastinate, I daydream, I can't have a plan in my life, etc. So to procrastinate and not be active means high activity? I don't get that. My other concern is, the fact that I procrastinate and have a hard time finishing projects, does it have to do something with autism or add or anything? I'd need to know, whether there is a different reason I don't know and a solution to this..

i don't know you, but maybe it's because ou spend your life behind computers?
that's not the best place to devellop social skills imo

Yes but let's talk about this. This is something most people assume and I believe it's wrong. Because the social skills develop in a very early age. I was really into computers at a late age. My father bought me a CPC at something like 9 but only at 18 I started getting focused in the demoscene and forgetting everything. Before that, I was not allowed from my parents to be much in front of the computers.

And as all other children I was also in a school, which is a great social environment where I should have developed skills if they came naturally. It's not that I was abandoned and closed in a box all these years. I had the same social occasions as all other children in my age.

I always remember myself being shy. A good theory I have about my case that doesn't evolve autism, is that I was simply so sensitive (and that's hardwired, not because of environment in my opinion) that something wrong happened in the first attempts to socialize that frustrated me and like a vicious circle it made me more closed to myself. But that's before computers at all.

Except if you mean that I later didn't try to evolve my lacking social skill (or actually the way I react to my emotions, because maybe it's not a lack of skill but fear and frustration or something else) because I was hooked to the computer hobby. But what I search here is the roots of why I initially came to that point. I can evolve those skills or what, but it's harder now. Why at an early age (0-6, 7-15?) I never evolved them or why I was so hard on my negative feelings?

Lol, but appart from the joke I always hated this. I want to know. Most people want to see me do things, not know things. If I go oneday and change myself, get a cool girl, they will see the external image. If I pretend I am suddenly 100% normal they will instantly think it's all fine and I changed as they think I should be. But nobody really cares that I want to know. They think all these psychologicla things, mental ilnesseses (which I don't think are ilnessnes but differentation from the norm) are bullshit. Nobody told me about these. The solution is not to find a girl. To find a girl is a good change in my life and another step. I might be doing this soon I hope. But I want to know. The most important thing for me is to know why I am what I am, not to live.

Hey, it's a cliché - but "getting" a girlfriend isn't the holy grail of social skills and being so focused on it doesn't up the chance of getting one either...

do you seriously believe anyone who claims to be able to answer this question for themselves is speaking the truth rather than just acting with the aim of self delusion?

make a demo about it

and no, getting a gf is not the solution to lacking social skills.
it does mean you got at least some skills though.
Interesting thread with surprising results (Adok et al.). Some of the talk here reminds me of this funny and insightful article.

Maybe getting a girlfriend will help you develop your social skills because it will make you spend less time with your computer. But that really depends on the girl.

Just do live, that is the only thing that can help you getting more data to know who you are, after all. You can't get to know everything about yourself if you don't try to expose yourself to external unexpected events.
Take everyday life as an experiment on yourself, and just do things to see where it gets you.

===

About procrastination :
in any project, when you get everything about 80% done, you see that you are able to do the last 20%. You perfectly see what's left and how to do it, and there is no more thinking needed, and then your interest for the project suddenly falls down and you start something else.
In top of that, the last 20% of a project can often take more than 80% of the total time you spend on that project, that's why no one want to do it.
It's just both long and boring.
The only way to get past that is including everything in some bigger project.
For example, include the "demo" project you're working on in either :
-"I want to be a famous democoder" project
-"I want to participate to the next party's democontest" project
Another possiblity is working in a team (or demogroup), as not everyone looses the motivation at the same time or for the same things, and each members can remotivate the others when needed.

By merging many boring projects like
-code a chiptune tracker and player
-code a software polygon renderer
-...
You get a more interesting bigger project, for example "make a great demo with chiptune music and cubes moving around". By merging some bigger projects like that, you get something even more interesting, and if you continue merging things like that, you get some idea of who you are and what you're doing there.

I only talk about democoding, but you can apply that to pretty much anything you do (or don't do). And yes "doing things that just don't have sense" can be one of the projects in your life, it's up to you to see if you want to keep this one or drop it for something more interesting.

Oh, and just take time to enjoy things as they happen, don"t spend too much time seeing everything like if you were a project manager :D
havoc: ok, I think it is a good idea.

Then, about the money, I believe I should not be the only one paying Optimus brothel visits. What about doing a collect?

Optimus, make a paypal account, I will do a website for the OPC - Optimus Pleasure Charity.

If pro/nuance is reading this:

pro said that Aspies won't be able to run their own businesses. According to this article, Bill Gates is an Aspie. I need not say more, I guess.

What a stupid test... so easy to predict what answers are normal and what are "Aspie".

If you answer based on those predictions, your aspie score just went up by 200 points

I took the test. It said: "You gave to many contradictory answers."

Means: the test sucks to give me an answer. lol

Your Aspie score: 132 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 74 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

I had a laugh about the question "you get upset when you are corrected/directed" or something :)

48 for aspie, 175 for neurotypical. Was pretty interesting to think about those answers.

Since I am no longer ashamed of admitting that I am an Aspie, I have taken the test again now and filled it in in a honest manner. Here is the result:

Your Aspie score: 132 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 93 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie
