mainparty hugescreen question
category: general [glöplog]
Hi all, I've a question about the hugescreen of the mainparty... do you know the aspect ratio and resolution of it?
The party compos will be showed on that screen also?
Thanks!

Okay i have to explain that the screen is splitted in 3 parts.
Left and right a kind of low rez area, and in the center a "HD" Area.
The plan is to view the "Party stream" the whole weekend to the center area,
so all day long if you can resist outside you can watch the compos outside.
For sure we cant put sound loud all day and night that might be a problem
and as gigantic the screen is, its not FULL HD or even 720p ... if you want to follow
the compos, you need to go inside the hall and watch the stuff on the small 10 x 8m inside screen.

is it possible to show production on the whole area, all 3 together? or will they just be shown in the center hd area?
so um... WHAT IS THE ACTUAL RESOLUTION? :)
yeah let us know the actual size
I guess that has already been discussed ... somewhere else
The display of the big screen / Grande Halle /
3 different modes:
1) Low resolution on the entire surface. This is the screen as defined : 89 pixels on the height and width 960 pixels on the width . The diodes are spaced 25cm horizontally and vertically in the direction of the slope. The screen in its entirety corresponds to the format of two screens 16 / 9 side by side.
2) High resolution over an area of 20m baseline. In this central area, the screen will
resolution of 178 pixels high by 320 pixels wide, ie twice the pixels in the height and width over the entire screen. The diodes are spaced 12.5 cm horizontally and vertically in the direction of the slope. The screen in its resolution is as high as 4 / 3.
3) High and low resolution at the same time, with image "in" the image. In this case we may for example have a high resolution image different that of the low resolution image in the image.

We will stream the prods ( as well as the whole party ) on the hd area ...
and believe me , its f**king big ...
We try to make some "whole roof" actions aswell, we keep you informed about that !
But this installation is not that easy to handle as a monitor ...
And the strange format does not make it easier

Diodes, ok. Cool! I thought: This can be no projector...
What is the max. update frequency? Could you tell me a bit more on the technology involved (diodes/drivers/circuitry/etc.)?

sounds amazing. i wish i could be there
Thanks for the info, so my understanding is that we can do:
1- Use the central "hd" part (20m baseline), at 178x320 (4x3)
2- Use the whole screen. In that case I'm assuming that we have to adapt to the lowest resolution (89x960 screen of the left + 178x320 hd part + 89x960 screen of the right), so 89x2240 (960+320+960) ??
I'm correct??
The hd screen has 178x320? In the h2o pictures it seems much more!

BTW :
YOU WANT IT - YOU GET IT !
BECAUSE ALOT OF SCENERS ASKED FOR WE DECIDED TO DO A HUGESCREEN COMPO !
EXECUTEABLES AND VIDEOS ALLOWED !
PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE CRAZY SCREEN SPECS AND FORMATS !
The Screen resolution is 960 x 89 pixel !
More information in the compo section on www.mainparty.net

so that means it is: 400x89 + 320x178 + 400x89 right?
Thanks !
Will games be allowed in the hugescreen compo ?
THAT MEANS CLEAR : only format allowed is 960 x 89 !
WE WONT ACCEPT FOR THAT COMPO OTHER FORMATS !

@WIZ : if you can bring joypad / controller which can handle about 150m distance yes :)
Will games be allowed in the hugescreen compo ?
sorry no, only non-interactive demos allowed

How does that work? Do we change the resolution to 960x89? I can imagine it has some special input for standard video files, but for dynamic content how does it work?
Full roof mode 960x89 works only using avi file replay, thats why i wrote "sorry no, only non-interactive demos allowed".
H2o was joking when he said bring joypad.
Only the central "HD" 320x178 part works with dynamic content, using svideo input.
Thats why we need avi file, or compatible with kkapture (greets ryg) and we're making an avi file for the hugescreen compo.
The other compo entries will be shown realtime in the central "HD" part.

hmm.. ok, so its a hugescreen animation compo not an hugescreen compo.
back to planning the demo for standard HD res then.

but page says exes are accepted..

but i guess from this talk here that they are just gonna get kkaptured and ran? thats no fun for me :/ i want it realtime. better stick with standard compo then.

Yes, because when people show Atari demos from an emulator or a video capture on a regular bigscreen, that is a "regular screen animation compo".
