Outline 2009 is a go!

I think Outline 2009 should donate all fundings to realising a full-blown BP this year
Nope, sorry. I'd rather spend some time in nice and sunny Eersel at a party that always focussed on the essentials than Scamp's megalomanic pet project including tons of prizemoney, silly overrated live acts, themed decoration and ATI lectures about shit that's available on paper if people would just bother to buy ShaderX books.
The first BP was nice, but after that it just went downhill. So fuck it.

I think people should ignore Nutman and his ridiculous attempts at trolling.
Oh, shit, yes :) But I just wanted to verbally kick something in the face. It's been too long!

I take it that you didn't ever got a prize at BP? - no there are no huge prizemoney ;)
Then why is 'competition prizes' 10k on the page's meter?

I take it you attended all of them?
This is probably the wrong thread to discuss BP09's apparently "small" 10k prize budget.
okkie: well it has been written over and over again - first off, there are a lot of compos, and usually rakings 1-3 gets a prize - you can probably do the math yourself, but:
10000 Euro devided by 20 compos (that was the amount last year) gives you an average of 500 euros for each compo, which again gives you an average of 166 euros per ranking.
Surely some compos get more and some get less, and probably 10000 euros is a nice round number to calculate with ;)

2003 and 2005. i stopped caring after that.
this doesn't mean that I throughout support 10k euros in prizes, but if one calculates a bit it really isn't such a VAST amount for 20 compos...
20 compos, isn't that a bit overblown as well? oh well, fits the party i guess.
(lets crank this up a notch)

Simply don't go then, you're only fuelling Nutman's stupid statement.
ORLY
Niels: well, then that's the thing you should focus on ;) - but as far as I remember all compos (maybe except 64k) have had enough quality entries to justify the compos - there are only few compos that I would like to cut away from Breakpoint.
Also I don't want to fuel any discussion here, I just want to show that, 10000 euros may seem like a lot of money when seen in one large pool, but not if you actually consider how they're used.

oh i'd gladly discuss it further, but as said earlier, this is an Outline thread.
All you need is Outline
All you need is Outline
All you need is Out...line
Outline's all you need

Really looking forward to it ;)
Niels: this is Okkies fault - let him comment on the 10 euros thing ;) and of course people should go to Outline, support it with all they got!
I can't go myself - dates are reserved for family purposes :/

i'm sorry, let's not further derail this thread.
yo, just before anyone starts getting weird ideas:
outline and breakpoint are very different parties. outline is low-budget, very cozy, and with a focus on simple comfort and simple fun. we'd draw a cross through having any prize money at all in favour of having a free breakfast buffet any time. breakpoint is large (and not everybody realises that costs go *up* per person after you've passed a certain fits-in-any-random-hall threshold), wants to provide HQ facilities, special features, prize money, and in general has a different notion about what's important in a party.
one of the reasons I like to make Outline what it is, is *because* there are plenty other parties who focus on 1e80 lumen big screens, themed decoration and/or organised entertainment. if all parties were like ours, we'd probably take on a different note again without even thinking too much about it.
as such, some people prefer the small low-budget style (with beds!), others prefer the huge ones. i, for one, wouldn't want to do without either.

skrebbel: well put!
Now go visit Outline dammit! :D

you're coming, i presume?!
As I said, I can't go there because the dates a reserved for family purposes :/
So, parties this year for me will likely be: BP, Solskogen, maybe Function (depending on dates) and maybe TRSAC (depends on myself really ;) )

Sorry :(
Well, my statement was only meant to cause a stir, and it might be controversial, yes.
I mean: what would we primarily like to save? A small, but cozy party, or the party that many sceners see as THE essential demoscene party? I'm not taking sides - simply throwing ideas out there. I think people could live without Outline happening for one year (or any of the other "smaller" parties), but BP being cancelled would have a rather huge effect on the demoscene - I fear that the organizers would lose motivation and think about dropping the whole thing all together, if cancelled just one... but OK, I hope I'm wrong.
And yes, there are better places to make cutbacks at BP than the prizemoney. The seminars was a good place, but how about cutting away the decorations aswell? In my opinion, they don't do much - after day 1 you don't see them anymore, so they should be cut.
But ok, wrong thread, I suppose...

@Nutman,
Check out this articlehttp://alive.atari.org/alive5/mekdiary.php]here which will tell you why those of us who prefer Outline do not like the big parties such as BP. Whilst to be fair CiH and I have not attended a BP yet, we had a nasty experience at MS2k2, one that we wish not to repeat. IF BP is cancelled, it is just hard cheese.
BTW, this message is off the record and is not necessarily the view or otherwise of the Outline organisers.
