I mean, seriously. Why hasn't any of you lunix wankers ever managed to produce a demo that is worthwhile on that pathetic platform of yours?

I'm sure you've been seriously offended by someone. Going on and on with this endless rant.

Scali: Go seek help. You've gone way past reasonable argument, and quite far past a bad case of the fanboys too.

I guess you missed the 'worthwhile' in my post.
Take this: [url=http://www.pouet.net/toplist.php?type=demo&platform=66&days=0&limit=10[/url]

The most popular demo is a port of a Windows demo from 2002...
They're pretty much all ancient demos, ported from Windows.

Must be because nobody takes linux seriously in the scene.

As long we make demos on our old platforms they are not dead. PC demoscene is probably less alive than the C64 scene, actually. :P

Ok. You win.

Look, could some please hand Scali a "Foot-in-Mouth Removal Tool".

@Scali - clearly you don't understand the concept of an olive branch. Instead maybe you should partake of -

If you want to troll, that's fine but making really undignified idiotic comments just makes you look like a tool. Maybe time to step away from the keyboard, or touchpad, or whatever.

I am merely stating fact.
Is there any linux demo that is comparable in terms of technology and quality to a modern Windows demo? Say 5 Faces?
I didn't think so.
All serious PC demos are written on Windows. Most linux demos are just ports of old Windows demos, the rest just plain sucks.

You won the argument already. No need to go on.

Then why are you still posting and insulting me? Go make a demo about it.

Yup. The vast majority of Linux-only demos are complete and utter shit. The only exception that I can think of off hand is Binary of Babel, and that's only because it's a geeky joke and actually quite a suitable demonstration of the Linux mentality (in a good way).

Unfortunately, as almost every single *nix-exclusive demo shows, people who use it to make demos are immune to the concept of aesthetics.

Jesus. You really don't know when to shut up do you?
So. Just to be clear you're using a vague search on pouet to justify your claims that not only are all linux developers "misguided souls" for being so but you're also trying to claim that "All serious PC demos are written on Windows."?

I have actually tried to be some-what gentle and respectful with you. But...

You are a fucking idiot who clearly has no idea what you are talking about. Maybe now is the time that you step away from you computer and go for a walk outside.
I'm done with talking to a twit, goodnight.

This.
Burden of proof is on you. I picked 5 Faces as it is the compo winner of one of the biggest demo compos last year. I think that's a good measure of the state-of-the-art of PC demos.
Is there a linux demo that is comparable in terms of technology, aesthetics, etc?
If not, go make one, or stfu.

Have you bothered to read this thread? There seems to be a number of c64 proponents who have commented - none of them AFAIK have said when they use emu's which OS they are using. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

It's nice that you're stepping into the ring, maybe you should ask yourself why?

I use Windows, Notepad++, KickAss and WinVice for my C64 stuff.
added on the 2014-02-20 10:46:03 by Scali Scali
I thought your statement was about PC demos instead of C64 ones, as in the text that I quoted. C64 demos, of course, can be done with any. I have my C64 environment set up both on OS X and Windows, and would have it on Linux as well if I was using it.

And, the answer is of course "for the lulz"

(KickAss and Sublime Text 3 in my case)

I'll give you credit for coding "5 Faces", it was indeed a great piece. With that achievement under your belt you're definitely in a position to tell others how to go about their scene life.

Thread derailed. Not about PC vs. c64 or Atari or ZxSpectrum or <put your platform here>. Troll OP is successful.

Apologies accepted.
Do come back when you have coded your very first demo (if possible in assembly language and not interpreted language).

Just checked my own credits...
Apparently only two of the productions I have contributed to, are Windows-prods.
One of which is actually a GP2X prod, and the GP2X runs on linux. The Windows-version is a port of that, which emulates some of the GP2X hardware.
So ironically enough it is the opposite of most linux-demos: this one is actually developed for a linux-based platform, and then ported to Windows.

But, someone said foot-in-mouth?

^ Top reverse trolling there.

& can I be the first to congratulate you on being the absolute winner of this particular internet argument.
Well done you!

Thank you! If it happens it'll probably be in a compiled language. I'm not hardcore enough for assembly (I did a XOR pattern in DOS 13h with assembly a while back though!)
