There's a long tradition in (commercial, at least) music of publishing your sources - check any old rap album for a long list of "xxx sample copyright yyy" acknowledgments. Maybe there's some payment involved too, as it's commercial, I don't know. But I remember hearing that all samples have to be cleared for use somewhere, so there's likely permission either way. Unless you're timbaland :)
