Sound Cards? I just got rid of 2 If I only knew you collected them they would of been yours for free golly gee.
SOTB got me into it, saw some demos before this one but not much.

Or for the dyslexic, State of the Rat

Bah, I played too much Shadow of the Beast recently ;)
son of teh bitch :)
oh well... first thing from demoscene i got to see was a class cracktro - i was totally amazed by the concept and found hornet on the net and stash did the trick.

First cracktro I've seen IIRC is in Nebulus on C64.. wish I remember who made it... perhaps Paradox.. can't tell for sure..
Then I got interested in demos as a viewer back in the early nineties with a500 demos such as State of the art, Mayday Resistance, Budbrain megademo, Amazing Tunes II (Share And Enjoy)..
Later I got myself a sampler (a DSS8+ heaven forbid..) and started tracking on the bundled tracker that came with the sampler..
Finally, some musicdisks by Andromeda fell into my hands and I was oh so impressed by Lizard's music (and Mr.Man's too) that I got inspired and started tracking mods with protracker and spread them around aspiring to get better.
I'm proud that after 7 years from that moment I finally managed to talk to Lizard on irc and thanked him for being responsible (even unwillingly) that I became a scener and for being a source of inspiration.
Now I'm in a group that has the word Andromeda in its name.. coincidence? =)

I got in contact with demos/intros through the bbs-scene and since me and my friends were to lazy to trade warez we started getting access to boards by making bbs-intros instead.
some of the bbs-intros we did are here: ondska.dyndns.org/~violator/tdm-ints.zip
heh.. pretty lame stuff but we were 14 years old or so at the time :)

You tried and thats the Main thing that counts ;-)
Wanted to do some creative thing with our computers...
Then saw some cracktros, Second Reality, Eclipse (EMF), Amnesia (Renaissance), Cronologia (Cascada), Unreal, etc
[internet, bbs, bahh... we didn't even have a telephone line that time :))]

It seems that i have not posted yet. So here it comes.
After getting my first PC around 1994(?), the first thing i did explore was music. I had copied myself from friends a modplayer which could play through PC speaker, and a bunch of MODs, and intended on building a COVOX-like "speech thingy", a device which plugs into the printer port and can make sound without blocking that much CPU. From my few BBS sessions i got a few MOD files. These were ocassional, there was not a single demoscene-related BBS in the city.(Kharkov, Ukraine, Population of 1,3 Mio people!) No wonder, there was no connections to the outside world and the estimate of 2 hundred people in the whole the city had a computer and a modem. Besides, it was all so slow and disconnected every minute or so! Some years later, we got a "Soundblaster Pro Compatible" soundcard and a CD-ROM drive.
I got gradually more interested by sound and music and got higher requierements. I tried out each and every soundcard which ran over my way - these were all cheap sound cars, and made compaitbility charts. Some shops were very friendly at giving me cards for testing for a short time, and even a 100 page thick book of tests was a result. Someone of them said someday "guy, i think you need a *serious* soudcard". By that time i have actually discovered Wavetable and had a simple Samsung Waveblaster-compatible addon. I got more addicted to listening to MIDI files than MODs with time. The next requiered step was flexibility. Rumors said that GUS was the right thing - and my father actually managed to get one around 1996. And there came the discovery - the GUS driver and product positioning CD came filled with demos! Among which were Unreal, FR2, and all the other legendary stuff - all top-placers from 1991 to 1993. And some invtros. The latter and the infofiles told me a lot about the scene - and since then i consider myself a fan of it. Then Internet appeared, and it was possible to check out things directly. Unfortunately, the state of the scene was much more boring 1997 as it apparently had been until 1993!
After that i with the family had moved to germany, and by the time we got accomodated the scene was in resurrection. I had joined a finnish group Numedia Cyclops as coder and graphician, and released nothing (that fake on TMDC5 doesn't count). Apart from the 3rd place in the Handdrawn at Evoke. My first party was Breakpoint, which i attended together with DiamonDie/NmCy. It was cold but fun. There i met elend and dipswitch and dalezy and others, and now i'm addicted to demoparties.
BTW, i think Speckdrumm need to justify their absense at the tUM! 7th Cube said they were disappoined not to see you as well.
