Scene.org Awards discontinued
category: general [glöplog]
@navis: Can I take your word on that?
Why would anybody stop making demos just because the awards are gone now? That's just... weird.
Well, people also stopped making demos when Breakpoint died. DIDN'T THEY?!?!
Nobody made the point that somebody would stop making demos just because the awards are gone for now.
And back to the topic, I agree with cosmic, despite the text being oddly formatted, that WiLDS or Animations should have a category in whatever new award pops up.
Though, I'm wondering why they were gone from the scene.org awards, were there just too few entries, or what was the reason?

navis ingeniously said - as long as there is community, that is, people enjoying watching demos, there will be a people that will make them.

He didn't.
Now back to the topic, what was the reason that wilds were dropped as category for scene.org awards? Seriously curious :)
BECAUSE WILD ARE NOT REALTIME PRODS
pixtur: haha sure. Shame there is no scene org awards this year, I'm sure you'd have bagged a few...
the annual 2012 wysi-award goes to pixtur/still for SQUARE.

I don't know what to add. What is said, is already said.
I am sad to miss especially some very interesting categories as well, oldskool, technical achievement, breakthrough performance.
@cosmic: Wild animation wasn't a part of the scene in the past and I don't consider it as a primary part of the scene history. I think some demoparties later at 199x added wild compo, also the first animation in a wild compo was Global Trash 2 iirc? Anyway,. I wouldn't matter however if there were other categories today, wild, anim, even web as long as we have new awards and we are all happy again. Though, the more the categories, the harder the work for the jury.
And yes, I just found out there is demoklubbi. Must be fun to watch all these in a row!

That's true, but aren't they worth to win an award? There are a lot of demos out there that are not entirely realtime. Kalms from TBL once mentioned in the audio-commentary for Silkcut (on Mindcandy 2) that they include animations in most of their productions to annoy those who hate animations in demos. Should all of these demos be disqualified from nomination for a real-time-award, too.
And when we are at it, why not kill all music- and graphic-compos at partys as well? Most of them are not realtime! And all fun-, drink-, discthrow-compos. Oh, and there are plenty of demos that use graphics and music not generated realtime. Drop them too. Make the entire scene realtime!
Okay, I exaggerated it a bit. :) But I hope you get my point.
Should there be a pouet-award it would be nice to incorporate all those categories that define the scene, too. Anim/Video, Streaming Music, Tracked Music, Freestyle Graphics, Pixeled Graphics, Ansi/Ascii (there are more I guess). And if the winners were selected by a jury why not pick multiple juries for demos-, music- and graphics-categories.
After thinking a little more, here's a suggestion for any replacement.
1. The public votes for every category.
2. The jury looks at the top 3 the public picked and chooses the winner.
Hopefully that's a bit more balanced. The scoring can be hidden to avoid ugly fights, and if the public have a clear winner it's a strong influence on the jury. And the jury has a LOT less work this way too, which hopefully makes it more sustainable :)
Finally:
3. There's a "special mentions" list, containing the runners up plus any demos any member of the jury feels should be there. I think this would round off the awards list as a 'recommended viewing' list, and capture more of the demos that maybe don't deserve an award but do have something special.

or just ship a box of statues to smash. he wins most of them anyway.
maali: but shipping them makes the little cubes fall off!
So magnetise them and put a high-speed camera in the shipping box to record it. A bit of editing and some good music and you'll be up for a scene award of your own next year :)
No, wait.. there's no wild/animation category. Or scene awards. :(

@gaspode: it was an obvious joke of course, I always hated "pc crashing lulz video" showed during wild compos but i am a big of this kind of wild and they deserve an award :)
@rez: Okay, then it seems I misinterpreted your comment. No offence.
well, what navis said
On amigaremix.com there's a ROTY every year... 2011 i won one of that ROTY but i didn't know until Ziphoid wrote me (Hey, you won) ...
Means: I don't care about an award. I do my remixes because i just like to do them and not for getting prices ...

after the end of Hinterseer Hansi alias Hansi Hinterseer, its a normal result that the Scene Award will abandon the Award.
There is now only one force left, Florian Silbereisen alias "The Silveriron".....
farewell.... Scene Awards.
