Origin of handles
category: general [glöplog]
Let me start off by saying that it still brings me great joy to see native-english speakers struggle or outright get pissed by the spelling of my handle :D
My handle started off as just "rogue" as i liked some of the dictionary meaning back in the day: One who is playfully mischievous; a scamp. / Operating outside normal or desirable controls.
I believe the superogue part came later from my IRC days where i believe on some platforms 9 characters was the handle limit back in the day (and ofcourse not to be with the no doubt zillion of other rogue's out there on irc :)

ahhh, i never realized that rogue=scamp \o/
glopdamnit havoc!
It's just my real name. I thought it was easier to just merge everything.
That said, I still have several pseudonyms for music projects.

Probably I was playing LOTR in the Amiga or something similar...
i still don't know why i'm 100bit, but maybe because i love round numbers and computer terms. i used it like 10 years ago for the first time, and i was just 8 :D
however, my other nicknames (i rarely use them) have some origins that i remember

Team210 -> "Z10", a student bar where some of us work and we got to know each other
NR4 -> I used to earn money for my studies with coding shitty software for an institute at our university, where I got a coder laptop labeled with "student Nr. 4", which later became my handle.

but but 100bit isnt a power of two, how is this a round number in computer terms?? :p
Mine is because I love ants. I was going to use AntMan, but that was already taken. :P
those damn superheroes!
wysiwtf, ok ok, consider my nickname like it has two different parts - one is "100", which is a round number (decimal), and one is "bit", which i took from computer terms (like, bit is the smallest unit of data)
btw, 100bit = 12.5bytes

OK.
Decent story :p
My initial handle was "Sound Aestesis" (Aestesis is an ancient greek word that roughly means "to perceive"), which was ok for a musician. But our graphic artists asked me to give it up as it was too long to pixel-draw, so I cut down to "Aestesis" only. It was still too long, and I let the name Aestesis to a friend of mine coding a VJ software I also coded some plug-ins for. So in the end, as other NGC pals were shortening their names for y-terminated short words ("Alkaline" became "Alky", "Viper" became "Vipy"), I opted for "Soundy". Not the least ridiculous handle, but eh, demoscene is for fun!
