STAR WRECK \o/ "I thought you said light beers" stupidest pun ever but i laughed my ass off, allways wondered what the original translation was like.
Oh, i have no care bears handy but.

saw the movie yesterday, it was pretty good.
go and see it in a theater if possible!

I've just watched the movie as well - it's good fun most of the time. To the people who were serious about the nazi subject: eeerrrr... WAT?
Just saw it at Imagine Festival in Amsterdam, awesome goofy pulp with some great CG in places, got some huge cheers from the packed hall and the exec producer was in attendance, a dutch dude who moved the shoot to australia, financed and insured completion, was beaming with pride
Even in the rare times when you're afraid it takes itself seriously it fires a great spoof or gag and the acting was classy for such a budget movie, great score spoofing flight of the valkyries in places and laibach ofcourse
go see it drunk!

I actually thought this was one of the main flaws of this film.
Let's compare it to Laibach. Laibach, as a band, seems never to have been about subtlety all that much, yet one reason their music and image is so effective is that they've always left it to the audience to figure out if they're being serious or not.
Iron Sky grants the viewer no such luxury. It provides cheesy dialogue, cringe-worthy comedy stock characters and generally over-the-top ludicrosity frequently enough to make sure the viewer never stops feeling mildly entertained, yet ultimately safe.
A more deadpan approach to the humour could have given this film so much more. It could have made the film challenging as well as funny, and potentially a classic, which it isn't as it is. Squandered potential is always a bit disheartening.
And anyway, it's a film about Nazis on the moon. I don't need it reminding me "hey, did you know this premise is actually a bit absurd?" every 10 minutes. I'm quite aware of it by myself.
Not that the comedy is all misses, mind you. The spoof references to Der Untergang and Dr. Strangelove work well, both as jokes and as tips of the hat to influential films that share some of the same themes. Also, the street preaching scene is admittedly one of the funniest things I've seen in a film in a while.
And it does entertain. It never gets boring. It's a fun ride with exciting action and battle scenes and some pretty spotless CGI work.
It's just that, while it's fun, it's also pretty much disposable. Since the film draws the comparison itself, it's fair to say that it's no Dr. Strangelove. Which it could have been, for our decade at least.

By all means, but not too drunk. As long as you sit still and don't make noise, we're cool. :)
i think it's quite clear that the movie was not meant to be a serious deep artsy film, but a entertaining flick that's easy for the audience. and as such it works excellently. and, after star wreck, this movie is more serious than i was expecting.
I just think that a film can be wildly entertaining AND have a lot of substance. Hell, I'll go on record saying Robocop is one the finest satires of laissez-faire capitalism ever filmed.
But yeah, just to be sure I'm not sounding too negative, I don't regret seeing it. I had a fun hour and a half watching it, and I hope it does well all around the world.
And it certainly is a million times better than anything you could expect after Star Wreck :)

I watched the movie yesterday, wasn't disappointed at all. :) It was a great ride. You have to take it for what it is, a trashy b-movie. Please don't try to interpret any "deepness" into it.
jobe, you did sound a bit too negative in the first post. :)
and by no means i mean that film couldnt be both deep and entertaining, just that from the background of the guys making the film i wouldnt be expecting to find too deep stuff.
for what it's worth, timo made a movie thats better than i expected and also it is a lot better than your general hollywood big bucks scifi crap that used 10 or 50 times more money. (to bee honest, i knew no finn could make a movie worse than transformers 3)

Relative to what? A very good student/amateur film yes, but I thought the wodden acting, stale jokes and references, suspensless script and cheap looking CG backgrounds didn't do the idea justice. A charmless and mostly plain boring film. I'd like to see what the southpark guys (or some real trash specialists like troma) would do with the concept. You know, people who have a good understanding on how to stage a good farce with little money. :)
I, and the 100 people who watched it in the theatre seemed to have enjoyed it
i was positively amazed by the low budget vs visuals ratio. the crappiness of acting and plot was bad yes. but.. hey, you know their prior work right? so. hopefully they can do smth ossom with a REAL budget one day :)
We come in peace!
Maali you do know that Iron Sky has the highest budget ever for a Finnish film?:-)
niko: no, but haohmaru said it was about 6 million in total or smth.. i think even "pirahanaconda" had a bigger dev budget than that :D
Supposedly, it was around 7.5 million Euro (~ 10M USD). Still very low budget for a CG-heavy film.
and yet that's enough to make it most expensive finnish movie ever
I saw it and i liked it. The screening i was in even had some blackshirts telling people that mobile phones were VERBOTEN.
Some aspects of the movie were crappy but i won't hear an unkind word said about the score. Laibach are great.

Howdy kwook!
watching it now :)
