Some ideas for would-be-cool/useful features :)

ryg move your eyes 2 posts up and you'll see a real asshole :)) Ok i'm sorry i hadn't noticed :)
a really cool feature would be if one could comment the groups just like their productions...
i have the strong feeling sceners love it to diskuss and comment whole crews instead of their productions seperately.

"i have the strong feeling sceners love it to diskuss and comment"...
you mean slander and moan about their good-old days, right? ;)
I'm sure farbraush will catch some awesome flak, undeserved or not, if that feature ever got there =)

and we STILL wouldn't care (except some occassional laughs at the sillier comments :)
added to the TODO ^^
When showing the parties, would it be possible to show the productions separate for each platform. So for example when i select Saturne 1996, i then get first all the pc compo productions, then the amiga ones,...
Now they are all mixed so you can have 2 demos on place 1,2,...

To reiterate what was said above I'd also like a more flexible top10 (like by 'type' instead of platform).
To sum it up, top10 shouldn't be a "regular" top10 list anymore, but just a search ordered by popularity/votes?
just an idea : can you add a counter on each prod sheet :
to see how much time the prod was downloaded. thanx :')

Hmm.. I think that edit-your-comment feature should happen, and people should be limited to ONE comment per prod. It would save extra comments with only ratings in them, but also would hopefully cut down on flamewars in comments, which don't belong there. "Shut up, your comment sucks!" "No, you suck!" (you get the idea) The comments are there to review prods, not review other people's reviews.
I think phoenix is right here, our comments on productions
should be more like parallel write-ups on the production, rather than look like bbs-es. We can still refer to other people's write-up of course, but then no endless YES!/NO! arguments, where only the last word count are possible.

Maybe there should be a execution tips section or something like that too, because many "reviews" simply consist of "it didn't work, my system looks like this...", so answers to these question should probably be seperated from the rest, allowing people who can't run the demos to find the tips they're looking for without having to browse through 80 reviews.
But then again, it would probably a good idea to split the production pages into a review section (which is on the prod page and consists of the usual comment/rating, maybe with some more choices than rules/sucks, and has edit functions); the second part would a bbs-like forum which is displayed like the bbs on the main page and allows people who don't want to review, but to rant on some topics related to the prod (like me sometimes :), to do that without spamming the main review page with offtopic stuff.

I think we should be able to add a release year without a month. Especially for the old amiga demos, it's very hard to track down the exact month but the year is usually easier. And year is still much better than nothing imo.
ok, i admit, for the stuff that is released after 1994, it's relatively easy to find release month but not for that really old stuff (silents, wild copper, scoopex,...)

Ok, here are some things that I think need to be improved on pouet:
1) The complete oneliner list is waaay too big. On my browser it stopped downloading it after 1MB. I think this is large enough! :-) Splitting it to pages would be a quick and effective solution.
2) The prod lists left and right of the main page use no wordwrap() functions. That means that if I add a prod named 'The revenge of the mutant flat shaded polygons part VI (windows version)' for example, this title would fill the table and drag the whole interface to the right. This has actually happened a couple of times with large prod titles.
3) The 'top 10' list has not changed for months, and probably will not change for a very long time. I think that it should be renamed something like 'All time favourites' and put under a menu. In its place, a 'Most popular' list would be much more useful. In this list, the most popular demos would be shown (according to visits or voting) but for a specific period of time (say the last three months). It's simple and fair, no? :-)
4) I know how to program php quite well. Things like the ones I mentioned above are relatively easy to fix. If Analogue does not have the time (which is of course understandable), maybe I (or anyone else) can help. Analogue would just have to check any modifications we make and update them to pouet if they are ok.
Of course, any comments on the above are always welcome! :-)

moT : your proposition number 3 is a good idea, it will stops the ""so limitative review of only top 10"" like some gloppers do, and it will add more flamewars to recent prods and this will give a live to the website and to the scene ;']
I think that the voting system is kind of vague. A rulez, sux or no vote does not reflect a sceners opinion wholeheartedly. Maybe a demo has brilliant music, awesome graphics, but very crappy code which destroys the overall appeal of the demo. This result into some people giving it a "sux" vote while several aspects of the demo are just awesome.
I suppose that a more detailed voting system would be neater, like voting in a 1 to 5 scale for gfx, music, code, design, originality and overall. This could also help the Top 10 productions as well greately, since popularity is not a valid way to determine wether a demo is indeed better than another.

I don't get it.. sceners go through hell and back to make a demo, and then are bored to click on five radio buttons?
ok, i did read almost all of these posts... now my five cents =]
1) seperating voting from comments will cause fewer ammount of comments. its so easy to write at least something like: "great music" etc when you rate it, and these who likes can write more detailed comments.
2) stop using animated gif screenshots! it is enough to have one which reminds you of the demo or gives some impression, but god damn why should there be shot of almost every scene in demo?
3) the group-database should be changed a bit since there are so many groups which share the same name, maybe an additional couple of bytes where each bit indicates platform the group was working on or something ;)
4) correction and updating is what we need most of all, but everyone already said that.
5) looks like thats all at the moment, really five cents =]

hmm, something more!
there are demos made in cooperation by more than 2 groups..
i support adding prods without download link as well.. then we could add papermags too ;)
as about counters, a counter showing how much times the production sheet is viewed would be even more interesting than download-counter (now we see just some mystic %)
Raver : hello, just a react to your posts
- the counter of how much time the sheet was viewed exist : it's the popularity counter, ok it's not a counter in totalnumber but it's an indication. but it's not a good indication of how many people has really viewed(runned) your prod...
- pouet is to sharing democulture, if you add prods without link you lose the interest i think, if you have good things on paper about democulture, simply scan it and put it on your website and share the link with us :)
- about voting system, it's perhaps too late to modify the system, lots of us return in already filled sheets to add the thumb, so if it is another time modified .... pffffff
- the only problem with these animated shots is the size wich is looong to load with a modem and the lost of surprise when you run the prod.
- updating sheets will be great ofcourse :)
- perhaps the top ten can be reseted every month, and it will can be the top ten of the month simply ? (in using only thumbs posted the current month) this feature can be exploited to make medium counts for a better top list of all times.
on the one hand... yes, sharing is what we need. on the other - that would ruin magic of paper. maybe some new format which can be only printed, eh? =]
I think my idea about the top10 is simpler... you just have to add a 'WHERE' filter in the sql sentence that selects the top 10... like WHERE time_visited > (DATE() - (1 month))...
this way you keep the the page views intact and still have a more representative top10... :-)

A little favor I'd like to ask...
Our group is called "Ümlaüt Design". We know this name is corny and lame, but since we chose this, it's that.
However, pouët has problems sorting it (should be between U and V, not between "Yl" and "Yn"), or searching for it (keyword "ü" starts displaying all the groups...)
I would like to hereby ask Analogue to please try to find a solution (if there's one...).
Thank you.

He'd have to change the default codepage on his (My?)SQL server... I don't think he'd like that, especially if it is already configured to use a French codepage... :-)
