[BP survey] Is there a way for a fair entrance fee?

category: general [glöplog]
scamp: erm, wasnt TG on easter before BP and even MS? Following your logic, you should move BP.

stelthz: Ok, I had some beer now, I hope this post won't be a bummerang. BP needs to stay at easter because TP collects all the gamers. If BP would change date, gamers would (keeping shifters comparison) take over BP like Htler took over Poland.
Quote:
Actually I think it's a good idea to make sure the date of a party you organize doesn't collide with other partys. The reason is simple: Respect for other peoples work for the scene.

Oh you touched my tralala...

I don't care too about that atari party on easter, as most atari-sceners are radical platform-fanatics anyway and prefer not to mix with other sceners.

Some people simply prefer smaller parties, just like some people prefer a concert in a club over a concert in a stadium. Anyway, I'm glad to hear Breakpoint GmbH isn't going to sue us.

MadenMann: TP used to be at/around christmas :)

madenmann, (assuming you meant TG, not TP), that's nonsense. it's not like swarms of gamers travel from germany to norway for TG every year or anything. the german gamers stay in germany and go to LANs there. they could've come to breakpoint, but didn't.

imo for once stelthz had a point here. you can say what you want but you can't say TG aren't supporting the demoscene or anything. they are investing time and money in having a good -demo-party too, besides the obvious gamerthing.

I prefer that over C64 and Amiga people who annoy the fuck out of people by professing their impressive ignorance about other platforms. At least Atari people have style.

And thanks for the head's up on german grammar. It's been a while ;)

i'm with shifter on this one, the first idiot who comes up to me at BP2005 and tells me his amiga shithunderd is better than my pc will recieve a severe beating.

madenmann: Dont worry, there are loads of other smaller LAN-Parties on easter, which will readily absorb all gamer-lamers.

Clarification regarding TG: I never nowhere said "TG should move". My opinion is that organizers in general should check their new party doesn't collide with a different party when setting dates. I know this does not apply to TG.

Regarding atari-fanactics: Back when the death of M&S was announced, I was browsing the "Error in Line 2003" (an atari-party) forums. And most threads there were along the lines "haha, finally they are dead. Let's hope all those PC lamers won't instead go to our party now". Probably isn't representative for the Atari scene, but I somehow have the feeling that for some odd reasons unlike C64/Amiga/PC/Mac-sceners Atari sceners prefer not to mix with other platform sceners. And well, that sure sounds like platform fanatics to me ;)

From the outline website:

Quote:
Although Outline is mainly an Atari oriented event, we are also welcoming like minded sceners using other platforms for creative purposes.

...doesn't sound like a fine blend of all platforms, but Atari Jihad, it ain't either. As isolative as they are, they don't do any harm either. Unlike some.

i'm sure there are assholes and nice guys on any platform :)

I did not even know the atari scene was still alive? Are they actually producing something or is it just a boozers meeting?
added on the 2004-07-01 18:00:34 by Stelthzje Stelthzje
Like on (nearly) every (old) platform there are boozers and producing sceners.
... productive ...

Check reservoir gods page for an example.
Indeed.. well I think then they should show up at some regular demoparties and demonstrate that they are still alive.

I recently saw some threads where visitors of your party said it's a cool idea to piss on other sceners. This probably isn't representative for the Breakpoint crowd, but I somehow still have the feeling that you all like to piss in eachother's faces. And well, that sure sounds like golden shower perverts to me ;)

Check www.dhs.nu news and party download section to get an overview of recent Atari releases.

Is there any place where I can find videos of atari demos? And maybe some kind of ranking or a selection of good demos?
added on the 2004-07-01 19:31:26 by Stelthzje Stelthzje
Golden Shower is always a visit worth. :)
for st demos, grab STEem at http://steem.atari.org. there are so few problems with this emu that videos of st(e) demos are nearly obsolete.

videos (falcon only)
http://www.scene.org/dir.php?dir=%2Fdemos%2Fcompilations%2Ffalcon_demo_mania/
http://www.scene.org/dir.php?dir=%2Fdemos%2Fgroups%2Fevolution/
http://www.scene.org/dir.php?dir=%2Fdemos%2Fgroups%2Flineout/
http://www.scene.org/dir.php?dir=%2Fdemos%2Fgroups%2Fdead_hackers_society/

there are no active/reliable charts, except for pouet.net maybe :P

stelth: Check Volume 1 and Volume 2 of Falcon demo mania.
Stelthz: I had the same impression, up to the point where outline 2004 came out of nowhere (for me, that is) and I started browsing around.

If I hadn't gone to BP04 already, I certainly would've gone there. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing outline move so I could attend both next year -I doubt Scamp is courteous enough to move his party ;)

I started downloading some demos from the falcon mania. Are there any must-see demos?
added on the 2004-07-02 00:39:24 by Stelthzje Stelthzje
Define "must-see-demo"... In the end it's all a waste of time (and it's good that way :))

Anyway, amazingly few people seem to hate prods like "Numen" on XL/XE, "Odd Stuff" on ST or "Lost Blub" on Falcon.
