Thinking about it
Assembly '98 was my first one. I can't say I really have a preference between Messukeskus and Hartwall, though the idea of "isolating" the compos just doesn't seem right. But I'm not going to be indoors anyway. (A rather useless post, I guess.)
@metoikos: cool! hope to see you guys around the Skeneklubi then, msg on IRCnet or here :)
@visy: yes! Our schedule is still coming into focus, but between our friends in the science fiction world and the demoscene, we'll be doing a lot of geeky things in southern Finland those two weeks! : D
Assembly'92 and '93 were at fine places.. ;)
Is it okay to use Teosto/GEMA/Whatever-licensed music? I remember it being prohibited some years back, but maybe there's a license now since I didn't find anything related to that on the compo rules?
(obviously I wouldn't be using any commercial music, just something from a scener who belongs to a copyright organization)
Hmm, thats a good question, because I (we) now belong to Teosto :/
Preacher: Nope, Teosto members can't participate, as stated in the faq
Ah damn, missed that. That's it for my participation, then...
What Preacher said...
Teosto, in musicians service so no one can't see or hear a shit, since 1928.
Tiesto?
grabbing musicians by their teostoikles!
Just to be clear: does this mean that Assembly is also being stung by extortionate fees from the national performance rights organisation, and has consequently chosen to go 'GEMA-free' like Revision / Evoke, rather than to pay up?
The FAQ entry seems to be claiming that PRO-licensed music can not legally be used in demos anywhere ever, full stop - which I don't think is true (but IANAL, and this isn't the place to get into a tedious legal flamewar. I'll start a new thread about it if people *really* want...)
Basically, I'm curious to know whether the root problem is "some specific national organisations are overcharging events" or "copyright law is inherently fucked up".

@gasman it's just because money takes out the fun of everything.
we're getting close!
We are now accepting remote entries to Realtime compos (e.g. demo, 4k, 1k, real wild). You need to buy a ticket (oldskool entry ticket 20€) to be eligible to participate from https://tickets.assembly.org.
Yeah, late notice and all that.

Is there a way to change if I didn't bought oldskool ticket?
I saw that later but I already reserved ticket and seat and so I thought it was too late to even bother.

If you bought a regular ticket and want to buy an oldskool ticket, then just go ahead and buy the oldskool ticket (but don't pay for it yet). Drop me a line at abyss at assembly dot org and I'll make the new oldskool ticket free and we'll figure out a wa to refund you for the difference between the ticket prices.
Thank you for organizing Abyss. Excited to come (and bring an entry).
I didn't bought any tickets, yet just reserved places. I guess I can just try to reserve for oldschool again and only pay for this at the party place?
Ok, I deleted old orders and requested for oldschool. Thanks!
