gargaj: is that really the attitude of the hungarian scene? it sounds odd from a dutch POV, nearly all major parties here are organised in the countryside for various reasons (less sound probs, cheaper, etc), and ppl dont seem to care leaving their cities at all (except when they try to wind up countryboys like me ;)).

Maybe it's because you have a working public transport system over there :)

not really, there are busses to the area but they either drive infrequently, only during working hours, or they stop too far away from the location (>1km) to comfortably walk to the party place with a lot of luggage. so we provide a pickup service at the nearest dutch and german railwaystations (~5 to 15km) and the local ryanair airport (~45km). so far we've managed to do that with 2 or 3 cars and 5 or 6 driver's licenses on a 100 ppl party, but ofcourse i have no idea how our solution would translate to the hungarian situation.

IMO, often pricegiving is just in your way of going home anyway, and since it's delayed and you have to catch a flight or whatever you'll miss it anyway... and if you go by car you want to head off home as soon as someone is sober enough to drive.

Btw, alcometers should be available at the infodesk for everybodys safety :-)

I fully agree that the problem skrebbel is pointing out exists. I do however do not like his solution. To me the prizegiving also is the closing ceremony of a party, and moving this to Sunday evening in the end means shortening the party by half a day.

It wouldn't work for Breakpoint anyway: Our prize money is based on "cash that's left", and we don't know this before close before the end of the party (when sales end).

In regards of delay I'm more thinking into the opposite direction: Not closing the votes before 12:00 on Sunday, moving the prizegiving to 13:00 or so. This way people still could vote after they've taken some sleep.

scamp, good one. i was also deliberately referring to the 3-day parties - somehow to my feeling their sunday is also sloppier, with more nothing-ness, though i couldn't tell why. they're generally also smaller (tum being the only exception that i know) - at outline we actually manage to calculate the money-left thing that same evening. we even only decide on prize money distribution after the compos, so that compos with no entries except a joketro don't get the biggest prizes (which vary between a t-shirt and 30 euros and a t-shirt btw, just so nobody gets offended)

You don't need to give them the cash on stage. Prices could be handed out the morning after, maybe have some party-inspired small prices for winners. Some stupid hats or something so everybody would know they won.

oh and personally i'd say that having compos running so they end at say 00.00 saturday would be kick ass. you could also have two deadlines, one that is general and one for people coding at the party - this people would have to sign up at the party and show what they have to compo organizers at the ordinary deadline (just save your previews to show) and then if there are to many partycoding (unlikely) they could be denied at that point already.

yes, sounds "messy", but i don't think that many people are actually partycoding nowadays for the actual party they are visiting, exceptions are most likely to be found in "oldschool" platforms and such.
