Respect to Drifters... Respect to Clary

Fucktros had been the salt in scenes soup back in the days.
That was what all groups, even those who had been "in war", understood. Diskmags where full of articles about "who hates whom"
and stuff. But the groups knew that THIS is easy marketing.
So..scene invented DISSING, Rapscene just copied :-)

BREAKPOINT 09 NEWS!!! http://www.sexinmud.com/
1. we didnt expect to win, nor did we make this demo to win.
2. we had our expectation confirmed, right when the compo was over: "we'll never win this compo... not with this competition"
3. we found it unfair to accept a price for something we think that someone else deserved.
thanks for the votes, but i think we didnt deserve the win... and thanks for the "boooooooohhh", i think we didnt deserve that either...
we had fun producing the movie... -lots- of fun actually... (would be fun to try to make a making of... ;)
we had a hard time during the production phase...
(or rather, clary and stingray and the others...)
we had an enjoyable time during the compo watching and also admiring the other productions...
thats what counts for me. i had fun... you too? i hope so... :)

respect drifters (haven't read the discussion, but I knew that this thread will appear sooner or later)!
keep in min people were mostly booing at the results, not the prods themselfs. luckily drifters completly agreed the results were fucked up.
the good old public voting fuck ups yet again.
the good old public voting fuck ups yet again.
and yes, big respect to them.
word.
How many ppl voted?
I fully second PS. I too think the booing was not targeted at Drifters, but at the result.
And yes, this was a nice gesture. Respect.

We had 409 valid voters this year.
How was it, everyone knows. We are not hiding it - first thing after the results were announced was huge confusion - "what just happened?". Later the prizegiving and swapping it with the Drifters - something which we probably shouldn't do. After all, it was them who won the competition in fair way. Admiting that our production was a better one, absolutely ok. Nice gesture. Swapping the prizes... not. Unfortunately being on stage and the fast pace of things happening doesn't help you in thinking. Best prize for us are the comments on varius forums, and thats all that should matter.
One thing that this whole situation made us think about was "is it still worth it". Or maybe amiga scene standing between c64 and pc quality just gave up and chose first way? Maybe, maybe... Lots of dilemas and stupid thinking. One thing is sure, next year we will meet at BP again. Demomaking is just too much fun (except moments before deadline:) to gave it up so easily just because of this situation.

Massive respects to clary and drifters..
ubik: it was our decision that you should get the first price so it is absolutely ok! and I told you and kiero on stage that you deserve it and I still think so! so go and make a kick ass demo next year again, this "incident" should motivate you instead of killing your motivation. so let's have a beer next year and i think we should just forget about this all. after all, ppl appreciate your demo and I think, that's the most important thing. and, like you said, demomaking is too much fun to give it up because of such things! ;)
Fuck this.

Voting (at parties and on Pouet) has always been political and I do feel for the Elude team on this matter, but maybe they'll learn to save their hard work for Assembly or another big party next time.
However, Drifters won the competition fairly and Clary should have just raised her middle finger to the audience and gone home with the prize.
It's kinda sad when demomaking becomes so focused on prizes and voting. What about the fun and expression and doing it for your own enjoyment?

I think that while it may not be focused on prizes and voting, the demoscene surely is about competition to a large extent. Most groups go to a party like Breakpoint to compete against the others, to show their muscles and see where they stand. That's part of the fun :)
Hmm, how much prize money at ASM?
€100,000 worth of USB fingerprint readers and Norton AntiVirus 2008.
