The Piggy rears its ugly head again!

plus it is a good incentive for proper party releases, so authors won't pollute their prod page with almost final, final, final-final updates and fixes!!
Actually, I already have my youtube link in the clipboard when I submit my prod, which is most of the time right after the compo ends. That's why the first comment is of myself posting the youtube link. It would be cool to have a form mask for additional links on the prod submission page, but since there isn't, and I don't want to wait until the glöperators care to process all outstanding requests, and I want to ensure that my prod gets watched by everyone interested as soon as it's released, I can't help but to PIG MY PROD.

It's not a bigger issue than Photon cares to make it. :)
I commented twice in 2 pages. It seems you go out of your way to, hm, not care.
There could have been other and different suggestions for improvement, or there could have been arguments in favor of the status quo, but nope.

Well now you know one that doesn't.
The other sites are actually not pure commenting and voting sites, like Pouet is. The irony is they know how to count votes and Pouet doesn't...
Anyway, let's see if someone else adds voting to their site and I'll feedback and help them, if they would like me to.
too bad my printer is broken, otherwise i would've printed 100 voting sheets for this. i am so supporting photon's call!
wait... perhaps we can send emails to people instead?
iPouet is like Twitter with a million billion Donald Trumps all shitposting at once!
Nice one hun...
Nice one hun...

That's funny — here I was, thinking Pouet was a huge archive of demoscene releases with screenshots and links to where I could download them, and a general forum (you know, like the one you're using to fight this utterly pointless battle of yours, right now).
I guess it's just my browser who renders the site differently. What does your Pouet look like?
"Don't you dare call me ugly!"
TomoAlien :) The title is a para-quote from one of Andrew Braybrook's dev columns when he did Morpheus for the C64. He was knocking the sprite pointer in Star Raiders as he was finding a (different) way to select things in the game.
What the title means is that I saw a prod get 6 piggy votes from no action taken by users, and that was a reason for bringing the subject up again. Obviously I had no part in the prod, so it remains a website issue for a website who is about voting and commenting.
gloom: Pouet's front page consists of top charts and comments (do it for the glöps!), plus two panes with news from bitfellas.org and parties from demoparty.net. Actual forums have more functionality than Pouet's version, which has only commenting.
Pouet is not an archival site. How long have you had this belief?

Right, I gave it ye olde College try, carry on you blithering idiot.
He obviously meant to say, index or catalog.
What it "is", each person will give their own answer, and the answers will change over time. To me tonight, Pouet is a blueish time wasting site.

There are a million random bullshit factors that can result in any given demo not getting the result / pouet score / public acclaim that it deserves. Maybe the audio messed up during the compo. Maybe it didn't get a youtube capture fast enough. Maybe it was a really decent demo, but it was up against some weird shit about a boy called Kevin that got all the attention instead.
Hell, my latest prod got a thumb down from kimi kandler, who has a well-known dislike of mainstream music, and given that the entire point of the demo is to be a riff on mainstream music, that's practically a badge of honour. But instead of dwelling on the impact that vote has had on the pouet ranking, I'll just accept that the lowest significant digit of the pouet score is basically random noise and move on.
You're making the assumption that the 2593 prods above it aren't *also* subject to the same random peturbations. If you adjust for those too, you'll probably find that the rankings average out to put it exactly where it is now.
I can kind of see the argument that fixing one source of spurious variation is *some* kind of improvement, even if it still leaves 999999 others. But... nah. The much healthier outcome is that we all let go of the notion of Pouet scores being a universal source of truth, and start treating them as what they really are, a vague heuristic to direct people's attention to Iconoclast instead of BITS 3001.

Maybe no problem for this prod, on the other hand it's just those few piggies there that keeps it from being much higher than all-time #2594

In other words, make prods where your own vote becomes insignificant.

I love this thread. No irony whatsoever.
