Since I can only get 2 forms of Chimay in the states, how many are there?

Now that I've been paid, I'm going to ATTEMPT to get something to BP that doesn't resemble making love in a canoe, yet is still American beer, to the party. I'm thinking I need a few Arrogant Bastard ales... folkages MIGHT even consider them worthy of a trade.

Well one can hope (:
hehe.. just get used to it sir garbagetruck, the us is just not famous for it's beer :) (the best beer i drunk when i was in the us was import grolsch :D)

A friend of mine went to the us, and swore that he found an american beer that was actually good at chicago airport. But he only had it once, and was unable to find anything else drinkable in 2 weeks. So i guess there are good american beers out there, if you're willing to spend a long time looking for them.

psionice: Just try some microbreweries in the US, they often have good beer.

There are three Chimay versions.. in order of taste and alcoholic volume they are White, Red and Blue (Grande Reserve). Blue is by far the best of the three.

I'll try and bring some LaTrappe with me... does anyone know what is the policy of carrying liquor in your luggage while traveling by plane?..

American beer is swill-water. No nicer way to put it.

The Belgian's know how to make a good beer, but it's pricey over here (import to Canada of course)

My favorite Canadian beer is Alexander Keiths.

I've not had the white chimay, but I've had red and blue. I preferred the red, actually...

Happydude: Remember, you produce Molson. I'm not sure how you could say anything else is swill when you've got that. It's just Miller with a higher alchohol content.

Anyway, Chicago has several good brews; but most are NOT found on tap in most places. They also have a place you can brew your own, label it, etc etc etc. And they're also home to 'Beer of the Month' and all.

But the Northwest has more good breweries than most other parts of the country, so I may be able to surprize folks with something that doens't qualify as Swill.

Best Canadian brew is Maudite, anyway. Which isn't so much a beer as it is Maudite. And I think it's 18% alchohol or something. So it's not one of my clear liquids, which are at least 40% - but it's a good bomb.
Ok I just checked, and it's only 8% as sold. However it actually ages so I'm not sure wether it actually increases with age or not. Doesn't matter anyway, it's still hell.

Fin Du Monde isn't bad either: http://www.unibroue.com/products/FIN.CFM (Same brewery)

But anyway

hey, molson have like the best slogan ever:

I've seen a Molson commercial downloaded off the net which was very inspiring.. mostly poking at the strangeness of americans..

Anyhow, to the best of my knowledge the highest alcoholic volume found in a beer is with Samichlaus (14%). Best drunk with deserts as it doesn't accompany food very well.

Anyhow, best choice for me is Latrappe Quadrupel (Black Clay bottle 750ml - 10% vol). It just makes me a lot happier when my bloodstream is full of it. It's quite expensive though.. Bars have it for around 21 euros, while liquor stores and super markets have it around 7,50. Anyone know of Latrappe's price at their country for comparison purposes?

Can't find a price on it online, were I at home I could find it somewhere I'm sure (cuz I know where to look at home) - but oddly, Beeradvocate.com's reviews of it list Maudite and blue Chimay as similarly rated in that category. Seems that it also does well to age (:

So, I now definately need to add Maudite to the list of things that I need to try to get to BP, as I think folks would really like to try that one. I've somewhat of a request for Negra Modello as well, which is half my request anyway (:

Holy crap, Arrogant Bastard is #30, ok I have GOT to get that over there. And another I wanted to bring is #7... hmm (:

Anyway, very interested in sampling beers (good, average) from other countries at BP as well...
can't find prices for latrappe, i guess it's around 5 euros per bottle here in the supermarkets, and around 10 in the bars, but that's a rough estimation :)

"here" is holland :)

Over here: La Trappe Quadrupel 4*0.3l 5.19euro

That's in Holland too (although nowhere near Gomorra, where Okkie lives). :)

I think I should be scared that I thought of that joke before you said it.

So, who's bringing the double and triple and quadrupel bock?
i could, but only to trade it for Arrogant Bastard.

Done. And I need a real dutch beer (not one I can get in the states - or, well, not one I can find commonly) to trade you for a stone IPA.
Latrappe Quadrupel is a REAL dutch beer =)

btw.. I've been checking beeradvocate.com for some homebrewing =).. wheee

"does anyone know what is the policy of carrying liquor in your luggage while traveling by plane?.." - I would be interested about the answer too. I don't know it but I had a flight with my Ouzo's in my luggage to Germany. Nobody checked.

I'd like to taste Salmiaki. They wanted to give me at TUM but they couldn't find me. Damn! This time I will stay together with you till you bring one..
