I've never liked the M1 too, but it arround me they all use it for raggae music. Yes fo the Ensonic, also I loved the early Proteus racks.
What's so great about the Emu Proteus? they're just no-frills sample-playback machines...

Oh yes, ESQ1. Very, VERY unique and for lack of a better word "meaty" sound. I can only fully agree :)
