Oddly enough, Thuglife.org is having a semi-similar discussion related to women in the ASCII scene.

Historically there have been some talented women in the ANSI/ASCII/Hirez scenes. I am not aware of any noteworthy female coders or trackers though, are there any?

Slengpung is a -as I always thougt- "it's us at a party with our friends"-page, not a "look, once again we photographed every attending scener at this party-page. As I see that page that way I have no problem with Boozin'Leia-pics. The question itselfs comes from a man not locateable in slengpung database. Is that the reason for the question? ;)

Btw, even when you have a good laugth about most Leia-pics, it is a not so good idea to watch them in a row. Watch the pics in its context, the parties Leia (or some other scener) atended and see nice, strange, computericed, overboozed, ... participents and have fun. I think, that's slengpung stands for. At least I take it this way and thank them for their work.

Btw, there were two main reasons for me to decide to go to Symphony:
1st - Dalezy
2nd - Slengpung pictures from 2003

Even with this 30 hours compo delay I knew it would be a good party because I knew there would be cool people. Thx Slengpung.

the page actually isn't about just boozing and "me and my friends". and it's not entirely our fault that we "only" have those pictures. to rewrite some asm organizer quote: "if you want to change the pictures, then send pictures". most of the pictures we get from "slengpung outsiders" are just the same; those people boozing with their friends. if you want pictures of people sitting creating beautiful things on their computers, then SEND some.

i personally just know of two true scene-girls, and that's d'arcy/excess and fuglemat/kvasigen, which are actual artists. not that many in the great scheme of things, but at least it's a proven fact that not all girls in the scene are hangarounds/wannabes.

that article is right on the money - the scene doesn't need hangaround/wannabe-chicks with no skills any more than it needs hangaround/wannabe-boys with no skills. tits alone does not make you a scener - create something, preferably something you feel yourself you can be proud to have your name on.

Seriously, why the fuck do people even care about a few hangarounds? If someone's cool and fun to hang out with and at least interested in the scene he/she is quite welcome at any demoparty whether he/she has released anything or not as far as I'm concerned. It's not like we're going to collapse under our collective weight or anything. All other scenes have their "hangarounds" too.

anyway, as an official member of Finnish Amiga Group, i suggest that from now on we make girls pay 10x the entrance fee that boys pay to get in parties. we want it to be just us boys, sceneboys, doing sceneboythings.

jobe: there is a difference between being interrested in the scene and when someone believes they are the single greatest scener and deserves everyones attention and admiration just because they are girls. it's the latter that i cannot stand.

Gloom, true. Still, self-important twits and attention whores are always self-important twits and attention whores, regardless of gender, skill or activity level.

It seems that Mr. Lancaster has stepped on quite a few toes here :) As for his article, I think I agree with his points. Being a girl who hangs with sceners doesn't make you a scener; being a drunk rolling around in your vomit at parties doesn't make you a scener.

I like a drink or fourty in good company, but it's nice to se somebody voicing their opinions on a subject I've thought of on several occasions myself: the shifting of focus from creativity to alcohol at parties.

Rasmus: The reason "unknown" sceners (is that sceners you don't know of? Or is there some hall of fame you need to enter before voicing your opinion on the demoscene?) write for Hugi is probably because "known" sceners can't be arsed to contribute. Maybe they're too drunk? ;)

as if it was leia's problem that all those people take photos of her..
