Articles for Hugi 29
category: general [glöplog]
The articles of Tad were mostly really good. And if Adok is writing about the Scene, which doesn't happen very often, these articles are well, too!
Some guys here that are so damn arrogant are really going on my nerves. I would visit Pouet more often. All is turned down by only a few assholes, the system is cool and the rest of the users is quite okay. But sadly those bullshitters are always the loudest. But as Pouet is not moderated I prefer TotalKaos.de.
Doing Hugi online has advantages and disadvantages. Competition is what makes doing a mag more fun but as there wasn't any serious competition since ages.. ;-)

any serious competition for pain, i hope you're trying to say. hugi has nothing to do with the demoscene. it's a mag made by a paranoid austrian who gets people to write about php and winamp skinning. on your average doom3 forum you can find more demoscene related material than in hugi.
btw ghandy, you're a nutcase.

ok, did just a quick read of this thread. someone was complaining about diskmags being released only once or twice a year. i wanna comment this the following way: most of us oldschoolish diskmag creators are not students or schoolboy anymore, we got a serious live (some of us) and simply don't have the time to create a diskmag more often. well this at least is what's the case with me - and probably also the reasons for no pain during the summer.
now, it would be easier if there was more support. but you already know this and i tried to gather more support throughout the past few years. this led me to my personal conclusion, that i do another issue whenever i feel like doing one. and whenever i got enough time. complaints on this are not accepted or taken serious. once you know how much work it is to do a diskmag you'd shut up anyway. this is not business, this is scene. and scene should be fun.
what else there is to say? competition in the world of diskmags might be cool. but to be honest, i don't care about it. oh someone said that diskmags are for oldschool whiners who want to read about the past. i guess i don't need to comment that any further ;-) surely, a diskmag's not here for last minute news, that's true.
before this posting gets too long, i want to tell everyone who was eagerly waiting for a new issue of pain that there will be further issues for sure. i just don't give any dates yet since i won't be able to keep the promises anyway. actually, a solution would be to hand over the main editorship to someone else, but that doesn't work for my ego hehe ;-) we'll see how it evolves, i might step back a bit just allow the mag to come out more regularly again. additionally, thanks to those people that posted positive messages on pain in here, that's what counts for me/us (the staff) :) the rest is irrelevant anyway.
oh, and for those who didn't knew before: pain is the leading demoscene diskmag, yay, we rule the world and our prophets know the true truth. arrogance and sceneruling is what it is all about hehe ;-) (i know some pouet idiots that know a shit about the true scene will take this serious ;-)

damned, i shouldn't write such long messages. it's worthless here on pouet anyway ;-)
Adok >> Yep, you should probably have recieved a reply by now =)

Actually I enjoy people calling me arrogant these days because if you call somebody arrogant, you admit that he is superior. (See my article on that very matter in Hugi 25.)
which was also a suppliment of Mein Kampf? Christ, Adok, what a pathetic dork you are ;)
And still, the scene should resemble equality, thus shove that superiority up your allmighty ass!
i have to disagree there maali. i really do feel superior to adok.
hehehehe, egbert, you are GOD! :)
Actually Adok is right about "arrogant" - the correct description of his attitude would be "bigheaded" or "cocky".
P.s.. Adok, your behaviour is pathetic, I hope you are going to grow up soon.

I remember how arrogantly people treated me when I was beginning to get into the scene, but this quickly changed once I had showed off my abilities.

Say, that fag made a demo ??
I never noticed.. :)
maybe he meant his iq-test score? :P
stelthz: you said the evil word. i tried to avoid it.
And he's a Mensa-dork too right? :)
arent we all? :P
i don't know what part of arrogant implies superiority. i just thought it simply meant giving one's self an undue degree of importance.
i dont have to be arrogant to be superior :)
it seems like Adok does not reply no mo :(

I slightly tend to disagree on that one. ;-)

"I need a tutorial on making goode DCS. make me one you adok you!"
I've googled DCS and found a whole lot of possible meanings of this abbreviation. Please be a bit more specific.
Ghandy:
"And if Adok is writing about the Scene, which doesn't happen very often, these articles are well, too!"
Thank you Ghandy. I'll try to write more articles about the Scene.

I completely agree with your first posting in this thread, except the last paragraph of course =)

If you think that mentioning my marks on one's homepage is 'bigheaded', then most medical/science graduates in Germany and Austria would deserve this attribute. AFAIK, this is also common practice in the USA. Of course, the worse one's marks, the less likely one is to publish them.
stillie:
"Say, that fag made a demo ??"
No, and I've never even tried to do so because I've not felt the desire. I acknowledge that making a demo is a lot of work. It's probably more difficult than making a diskmag, and if it's a good demo, it might be equally time-consuming.

IMHO, that's not arrogance. What you talk about is self-importance. Arrogance rather is an extreme form of self-confidence.
On the other hand, I don't regard other people as inferior. So I'm actually not arrogant. I just trust my skills.

Say, that *** made a demo ??
No. But if i recall correctly he participated now and then on 8086 assembly size optimization compos, and was among the world's top.
I'm not sure of how much value that has, since it seems to me famous scene coders have not been participating much in such competitions. It's not about optimization on large scale, it's like counting fleas one by one.

adok i read in some faq that it is 'The excessive use of orange/yellow/red in a demo or intro' but im not quite sure it is that easy to achieve.
the_Ye-Ti:
I guess that's easy - very easy! Simply code something that only displays these colours and runs for hours. Perhaps fading from orange to yellow to red and so on all the time... There are a lot of possibilities. Guy, you're triggering my imagination. Now I even remember that Hugi #8 contained a little intro with shadebobs having these colours.
But I guess it's certainly possible to create much more sophisticated demos that only use shades of the colours you mentioned.

oh man... someone who does't even know what DutchCodercolorSceme is wants to be a demoscene magazine editor?
a while ago, i was thinking "oh, nice doing adok, nice mag", but i never liked your articles, editorials, etc. it was the contributions of other people which made it. but then, i get to read an interview with adok and... wtf! and as i see now, adok's not gotten better a bit by now.
adok, please drop this attitude. it's gonna kill the mag. you get no contributions - you're noone without them, so get lost or get smart!
