Graphicians: 256bytes pouët logo!

drfreak: nice one :)
Nice drfreak! What do you use to pixel them anyways, Pro Motion? And yeah paletted images add the PLTE chunk which adds a stack of extra data in :/ redo logo down to 227b!
You need to get yourself PNGOUT or PNGOUTWin Which is just a gui interface with pngout built in basically but allows you to do massive batches of files easily.
For 24Bit PNGs though i've had better results with PNGCrush
Can't remember what i use for GIFs, it's on another machine.

There's Trout's GIF Optimizer.
I've had best experiences with PNGout by Ken Silverman when it comes to compressing PNGs. And I've used some random header-tool to hack the chunks.
Yeah Trouts, thats it and another one i use, but only because for some images Trouts works better, and for others ... Just like with PNGs, for paletted stuff it's PNGOut, for 24bit PNGCrush.
Like for JPEGs i'll use jpegtran to strip out all the shit that Photoshop puts in there using: jpegtran.exe -copy none -optimize -progressive -outfile .\compressed\{file} {file}
{file} is there because i refuse to use a windows system without Directory Opus installed ;p And i've setup a bunch of scripts and context menu's to batch process stuff in the listers.
So my script takes JPEG(s) and compresses them with and without -progressive then compares the files sizes and replaces the original with the smallest one.
One word of warning, if you use colour profiles in Photoshop you'd want to use "-copy all" in place of "-copy none" otherwise it won't look the same :)

Slightly better Animation: [256 bytes]
And I'm done till I decide to stop being lazy and make another png entry. ;)

pro what?^^
of course im using mspaint! to optimize my palettes im using photofiltre and to change my PNGs im using tweakpng.exe (e.g. add masking color and remove those crappy chunks that mspaint adds...) and optipng.exe to optimize

photofiltre is a good choice indeed :)
Well optipng is hardly the best, and pngout beats it by 22b(9% saving) which is relatively huge and removes any unneeded chunks which will improve your workflow :) Iif you want to add masking colour you'll still need tweakpng. But, this will still give you much more room to work with and make even better logo's.
Oh and this is Pro Motion
If i generally need to reduce the colours in an image or take a 24-bit image down to 8-bit or under IrfanView (another program i can't live without, this and DOpus are the 1st installed on any system i use and it gets all my image filetypes associated with it) is what i use as it gives decent results. I just wish pixel programs would offer a wider selection of colour reduction algorithms though, just using one really limits you and there are many out there and i hate having to use different apps to find the best result :) ArtGem is another great app and great for pixelling in, just a shame it's not available anymore unless you dig around.

I give up.
I've spent a few hours trying to make this <= 256 bytes and all I got was 266. THERE MUST BE a way to make it under the barrier. Can accept resizes keeping the main image complete (but no resampling). Who will succeed and get the glory? :)

(Not to mention it would be cool to keep the colours, of course I can make it under 256 bytes with B&W 1-bit PNG, but I don't know if the palette can be hacked in 1-bit depth)
broken link
Never mind. PNGOUT left the pic in 239 bytes. Mission acomplished.
288*182, 239 bytes.
288*182, 239 bytes.
For the record, a version with alpha channel in 252 bytes.
Hehe, nice work there stage7! :)
seriously impressive :)
Men, you're bloody mad!
I love it!
I love it!
Nice revival! :)
