Ahahaha!!! Supports GUS emulation! Works great, I can run Dope now with music too! Runs a lot of other demos with GUS too!!!
Now, I wanna ask you: Tell me any "No GUS, no demo" or even "No Gus, no sound" demos that I might have missed. I wanna try some!
p.s. And of course I finally ran Optic Nerve through DosBox, olala!!!

sweet :)
well, nice effort, it's a great thing that it runs even our wicked own pmode, but the gus emu has some problems, and, it is __very__ slow (athlon2400+) to watch demos... :(
also, the dos included is quite buggy.
so i still vote for my p90/sb16/gus config :)

is it possible to watch hplus at some kind of speed that doesn't destroy the demo???
psonice: no.
just tried
1.5 sec / frame
and no music
:)

This is probably because it's an simulates the whole CPU in C code rather than simply isolating it into its own process space. I played just a few weeks ago with the thought of rewriting it to do "code morphing" for some completely different instruction set that is easier to emulate. Too bad I'm too lazy to ever actually do this sort of stuff..
How on earth are you getting these demos running? Dope's opening scroller starts in the wrong place, and it crashes at the end of the scroller...
Second Reality runs but looks bad...
I have yet to try it with anything else.

dope seems to run ok, but makes no sound :(
second reality is ok, even not so slow, although there are some bugs (guess the videocard emulation is far from perfect :)
unreal also runs, again with minor bugs
panic stops doing music after about 20 seconds :((
(but the first 20 seconds is great :)

DOSBox and its GUS emulation run pretty well all Orange demos (except Television).
My big disappointment is with Acme 303, still slow as hell and sound is badly fucked up...

everything is slow as hell :)
Well, it wasn't meant to emulate a Pentium, fools. :) Those 486/P5 opcodes are gonna take a while to implement, I imagine.
But on my XP1900, fullscreen (much faster than a window), 10000 cycles at full framerate is equiv to a 386 at 80mhz.. good enough for me.
Give it time, it will improve.. or get an Athlon 64. :)

Still not recieved you GUS yet then, Optimus?
phoenix: very probably there don't exists a single demo which use 486/p5 opcodes :)
uhh this gus support is really crap at the moment. i found about four prods which sounded correctly (two fc demos and two of my intros :)
but for most demos it produces noise, or nothing at all :(

i haven't understood all what 216 said :] but i agree with him : it's quite a pity to run a high-level x86 emulator on a x86 chip... though i understand DOSBox is meant to be ported on other platforms.
Oh, come on. It's not a like a x86 and a vga card are very hard to emulate compared to c64 or amiga hardware :P
ok i test thoses demos:
contrast/oxygene : sound suxx and there is no endpart
solex/oxygene: do not run at all
bomb/impact : could be run well if dosbox was faster
explora/bomb: same problem
stars/nooon: effect speed is correct but sound suck completly
dope/complex: could be run well if dosbox was faster
my proc is a Centrino 1,3ghz
note: this version is extremly more faster than de previous one or other program like this (as WDMSound), and Gravis emulation is really koool

I got some good success toggling the processor type between normal/full/dynamic and throttling the cycles per second. Ran a good number of orange & tpolm demos that way. Don't be afraid to mess with the config
I still didn't got my GUS, the guy resend for the 3rd and last time in an address of a friend of mine. If I had one then I would prefer it than emulators too.
Dope ran well enough for me, the scroller was right and there was music even in the vector part. I think I disabled ems/xms before running it. I haven't tested enough things yet but the few ones were fine for me. Emulator is slow. But a 2Ghz machine gives enough speed (At least for 386/486 demos) here..
Would be handy if I could see how to improve speed. I don't understand what the diferrence beetween normal/full/dynamic is and what's the best configuration. I think dynamic is for dynamic recompiling but then again I didn't noticed any improvement. And what's the diferrence beetween normal and full? Which is faster???
I'd prefer an emulator where you could choose exactly which processor at which mhz you wish. Why all PC2PC emulators have only cycles to choose or not at all?

i used dosbox for grabbing screenshots for www.demology.tk and worked in many cases.
when it will run valhalla prods i will be happy with it, at least if _216_ starts something ;)

I am not sure if frameskip=0 interferes with speed. I set it at 2 or 3 when I watched the demos. In WinUAE, new and heavy demos will crawl with every frame displayed and the sound will fuck up too. But they will work fine if I set some frame skipping. It's like that the emulation cannot be synchronized properly with the graphics at full output or something. I don't know if it is the case here too, so try it with some frameskipping too.
Well, I'd wish we wouldn't have to fuck so much with emulators in order to run old demos properly. Nevertheless, I think DosBox is the first serious production towards there (especially after the pmode and GUS support) and in one-two (when I'd have a new PC too I guess) I will be able to run things finer as I do with other emulators. But I am still expecting for my GUS anyways.. ;)
