We have some very very sad news.
category: general [glöplog]
Giles 'Meaty/MeteoriK' Constant sadly passed away earlier this week.
Many might have known him for his famous quizzes which he hosted at the Sundown and Revision demo-parties, or his work for Assembly-TV a few years back.
But it was as the third part of Approximate and as a close friend that we knew him.
We first met him back in 2003 while waiting for the bus down in Bingen during Breakpoint, I remember being amazed that there was such a thing as a scener from the UK. We became friends and shortly after, he joined us and has been an irreplaceable part of our group ever since. He introduced us to all the wonderful people in the UK-scene, many of which we are happy to call our friends and who now shares our grief.
Giles was the creator of Mapprox, the soft-synth used in all our 64k releases. A synth that helped us, among other things, to win the best 64k intro category at the scene.org awards 2009 and of course our first place at Revision this year with Gaia Machina. Something he was very proud of.
We are truly heartbroken by this unexpected news. He was a good friend and he will be forever missed.
The demoscene will not be the same without him.
Our thoughts goes out to his family and friends.

Meaty, you will never be forgotten. Your quizes will never be forgotten. Your excellent work on your synth will never be forgotten. I was looking forward to actually trying a final version of it, I guess it's too late now. Rest in peace, brother.

I never got the chance to meet the guy but so many others only have kind words to say about a great guy. He will be missed by so many people and my heart goes out to his friends and family. The scene has lost a great man.
Hard to find words :( RIP.
Rest in peace, Giles. You're going to be missed terribly. Thank you for being a fantastic friend.
