Where to direct newcomers or advertise for new members?
category: general [glöplog]
I've often wondered why there's no obvious place for newcomers to apply for membership in established groups or where groups could advertise for group-openings.
Whether a group is expanding, needing other talent or whatever the reason, it would be really nice with some central way of advertising this. Also, it would be a lot easier for sceners to direct newcomers to such a place. Perhaps new groups would even be formed that way. That's how most bands do, and with just a little effort, it would be possible to match people and goups up geografically too.

i heard these demosceners guys have pouet.net for that.
In which way do you mean, Pouet is able to match people with groups or people with other people based on geografical location?
If a group were to advertise for new members, I'd say that thread would be visible on the page for just about a day or two, before it drops down and returns to oblivion.
Having seen some quite arrogant answers to questions from newcomers who just didn't know how to "get in", I'd still say there's a need for a place for sceners and groups to match up.

then, make a demo about it ?
Now that would be a great answer to a new potential graphics artist looking for a group opening or other newcomers to team up with.
anywhere else than pouet would prolly be good for newcomers
Gmitts puts on old man hat.
When I were a lad we advertised in ye olde diskmags like Grapevine or Visual Intensity! But how about shoving requests into nfos like that "other" scene does?
Yeah, we did that too.

So f*cking win it's not funny.
Maybe spamming slashdot, gawker, digg etc. & all the others with -
"go make a demo about it"
I wonder how did we manage to make any demo group at all before the intrawebz 2.0
what thom said.
yeah, just go to a party, the rest is a self runner...
I grasped my guts this year and visited the evoke. I wanted to go to a demoparty since I finished school in 2k3...
When I got there, I found people I seen before. They live a few towns away from me and now I'm going to tUM with them. I think that is how it starts...
Sometimes you meet faces you know or you meet faces that like the same thing like you do... A group is not only a collection of people with the right skills, it should be a group of people that like each other, too?
Right?
Thats why it's called a demo - PARTY. Because you like each other... ;)

Yeah. Go to a party, have a beer and make a demo about it for the next party.
definitly what thom said.
The way I see it;
you do what you do
spread your work around
talk to people
it'll work out fine.
People with similar interests tend to gravitate together, eventually.

Usually newcomers first found their own groups, and if they prove to be talented after releasing some stuff, they are asked by established groups to join them.
This whole party idea makes too much sense, and is perhaps even somewhat organic. Obviously the Demoscene needs some sort of Human Resources facility, which can match people using a series of true and false questions.
e.g. "Are you wearing pants?"

and for what do you need the ominous scene then?
you can do this wherever you want

Byrdes of on kynde and color flok and flye allwayes together.
perhaps coming on some demo oriented IRCnet channels can help...
do you have suggestions? examples? That would be something :D
before the internet groups were mostly country based.. or even groups excisted from members living in the same city / area.
If you can't google and IRC then you probably wouldn't demo.
what kaneel and ps said.
Direct newcomers to http://www.hugi.scene.org/. That's one of the best ways to learn about the scene and coding.
