Windows 7 64 Bit Random Stuff

category: general [glöplog]
Right, dunno how many of you are now using the 64Bit Windows 7 RC, but there are a few wierd things I've noticed: Like if you run a demo using a resolution lower than native, it doesn't change screen size, just runs it at it's selected size inside the native fullscreen. Also a few demos don't run, I wondered if there could be some sort of fix to address demos that don't run?
try this: Link

or change your driver settings.

It seems that nvidia drivers for win7 have their default setting to not scale lower-than-native resolutions on the contrary to xp/vista ones.

Funny thing is, I've already had the 32 bit version of Windows 7 installed, but never had the same problems. :S
funny but, i am now using the 64Bit Windows 7 RC with an ATI card and no problems at all with that..

Just watched "Debris" with all settings on maximum in 1680x1050 and the machine didn't even break a sweat. In other news: the Windows 7 final is pretty darn sweet.

er, what does this have to do with the os?

debris is gpu-bound for the most part.

Well, for one, the demo runs without a single glitch.

Oh dear! I'm using a laptop, so changing cards isn't really do-able.
And for some strange reason a demo managed to sort the problem out and I never had the problem since.

Good one. ;)
which demo was it?
the group that made could release it as a GPU tweaker!
"While your GPU is being fixed we show you this realtime animation, so you won't get bored. Thank you for using this product. Please try DriveFixer and CaseDentRemover too."

actually, i had that same 'screen res doesnt change back to 1680x1050' a few times in vistax64 too, so i assume it's not a win7 drivers problem, more some unfortunate coincidences :P

with some game (forgot which it was, smth recent) i even had a more funky "problem", after playing in i dunno 1024x768 i guess, it did change back to 1680x1050 but after rebooting vista started in 1024x768 :P again an unfortunate coincidence i guess cos i dont think they'll ship games doing that by default cos n00by gamers would freak out :P
any demo using crinkler will not work for me. Is there a workaround?
