Rumour: PAiN
category: general [glöplog]
Rumours say there are news about PAin at http://pain.scene.org and even http://www.ojuice.net. Yes, read that stuff and act accordingly :-)
There is something I fail to understand in the votesheet:
- Atari ST prods are in the newskool category, along with PC Windows, Xbox etc...
- Amiga ECS/OCS prods are in the oldskool category, along with C64 & Gameboy
1. That just doesn't make sense because Atari ST and Amiga 500 were released more or less at the same time (around 1986) and should definitely be in the same category.
2. Amiga Aga and ECS are split into those 2 categories and so should be Atari ST and Falcon.
3. Moreover, Gameboy was released AFTER the Atari ST (1989?) and is in the oldskool Category, which makes even less sense.
For those 3 reasons, Atari ST should definitely be in the oldskool category.

ATARI SUCKS!
hey keops: thanks for the hints. as we wrote there in the description, the differencing between old- and newschool is not age based. for all the rest, ask dipswitch since he's the old- and newschool category inventor ;-)
Then it's based on what? :)
astrology
keops: i guess dipswitch wanted it 8-(or less)bit to 16-(or more)bit.. he'll be back home late this night, but i'm sure he'll explains his reasons here :)
*kof kof* Atari St is 8bits *kof kof*
the true reason is that ATARIMAN MAKES EVERYTHING NEWSKOOL!!
68000 is 16/32 :)
Tell me if i'm wrong.
Amiga Ocs/Ecs is a 68000 too no ? :)
The 500 came on market after the Atari, and you put it on a higher category ^^
something is wrong to me.

Not to mention that A500 had a much better hardware (copper, blitter, paula, etc)
as i said, wait for dipswitch and we gonna clean the thing up. i suppose he had his reasons. and yes, kenet, i was wrong about amiga ocs/ecs being 8bit.. :-)
@kenet:
Atari ST,Amiga500 using MC68000
Atari Falcon,AppleMac(mid-late 80's) using MC68030
(am I right...coz not too familiar with Atari)
the whole 68k family (Motorola + derivates) can address
longwords (=doubleword for PC heads)
32 bit (FastRam stuff f.e.).
Only the addressing of internal
custom registers (Blitter,Copper,DMA f.e.) is restricted
to word size 16 bit.

No arguments, just vote for the usual suspects, and voila.
(One good thing with the new system is that we know some titan member(s) have voted :D).
(Btw, the first macs (b&w) were powered by a 68000 too).

PAiN guys: so what about the sinclair QL??!!!111 oldskool or newskool??!!1 i am so confused!!!!11
(68008...)
(68008...)
definitively newschool :)
Eventhough the difference between new- and oldskool might not be age based: placing a platform for which the oldest entry on pouet dates back to 1986 in the newskool category is just weird :-)
who the hell votes for old dos stuff anyways?
get over the trauma and vote.
readjustments will occur for next issue's votings if need be.

PS: nobody mentionned DOS stuff here afaik. Sparcus was most probably refering to Atari ST demos made in 1986...
<crybaby> Look ma, pain say I'm a nuskuler!
hitchhikr t'es un gros connard!
Go hand in hand with your friend Dipswitch and Unlock: you've the same level (LOW).

*bump* (and ignore ep)
atari burns!
heya. okay i'm veery hungover but i'll try to explain the system. the one and only point is to separate "weaker" from"stronger" machines. sorry if the terminology sucks a bit.
and about atari, well, i really dont know much about those, thats why the mistake. keops, tell us where which atari belongs and we'll fix it!
