Scenes from the First Rare Digital Art Auction

category: general [glöplog]

How might this affect the demoscene in terms of building a marketplace for original scene productions and perhaps elevating the scene into more mainstream art circles?

this might be interesting for BITS
Finally a sensible use for the blockchain - make people pay for stuff that used to be made for free and for fun!

It´s completely hilarious!
Dude bought a Pepe for 36k$ and when he should have paid he said he doesn´t even have a pepe-wallet! ;)
Hipster-Bullshit!
I guess it´s time to keep my dumps, as one really can sell shit as it seems! ;)
i find it supremely ironic that a lot of the nerds who are into creating artificial scarcity with cryptocurrencies right now are probably the same nerds who were a few years ago screaming about how information needs to be free.

I think, demoscene art is not more mainstream, because

a) you cant make money with it (so no one can own it exclusively in a gallery, in a museum or at home)
b) it is more a distraction from society than a reflection on society (a lot of demoscene art is very nice to look at, but doesnt really have a standpoint which a viewer can relate to positively or negatively)

Preacher: for most protagonists "information needs to be free" was basically just a disguised "fuck copyright" attitude

Obviously. And even worse disguised ”I’m special so gimme free stuff”. And yet - here we are with this bullshit.
