"fairlight" members arrested in warez raids, any corelation?
category: residue [glöplog]
Maybe I just haven't been paying attention the last few years. But is there any connection between the warez and demo groups as there is with razor? Will these arrests impact the fairlight demo group if so?
I figured maybe some others around here could offer some insight. Or just discuss the impact of these raids in general.

i doubt this is a site where you discuss warez scene.
i'm not surprised. that's the way cops work all around the world. they just cannot locate real elite : top cracking goups, top warez groups which are really active in crack/warez scene ( for instance eclipse, core, tsrh ( imo they rip some releases so they suck. how is one supposed to produce ~15-30 keygens per day? and same every day ? do they sleep? ), others... so they bust famous but not really bringing losses groups. like when cops can't bust real criminals they take drunken ppl, afroamericans... you know..
And what a fucking pleasure of busting CLASS if they've just released their endtro ?... so they're out of business...
i'm sad :((((((

2 troll : depends. i haven't used fairlight releases so have no idea on who are key persons in their wares division. ofcourse if democoders are somehow involved into warez activity they'll get some...
hmm. why do the police even bother?
usually demo and warez sections from these large groups are separated, especially when cops are around... the rest of the time, most of the people in the demo sections make some releases in order to get some ftps from the warez sections...
Rad Man : that's it...
stil: primary concern may be the sole fact that they are in the same group. "demo division" and "warez division" may not make a difference for the cops. wouldn't like to see e.g. Smash or Reed get arrested, "just because".
well, we in the demo division and the c64 division keep it entirely separate from the warez side (and have no knowledge of it) for good reason. - so we got nothing to hide.
and no, we dont make demos in return for warez ftp access, because that would be an incredibly lame reason - we'll leave that instead to the wannabes working for some other groups.
and remember: legends never die.

Radman's post says it all
smash: Liar :)
good luck to the fallen soldiers!
radman: fuck p2p.
radman: fuck p2p.
dip: p2p is the future even for the scene. And you know why ? because p2p is decentralized and thus secure (not subject to busts...)
btw i don't know if ftp.scene.org traffic is too much for it (thanx again to who host such a vital service! ;) but torrents to popular big demos/wild could help it a bit... besides have Blizzard and Valve already started incorporating BitTorrent technology in their own distribution networks.

More guys busted! Presto!
JUST GREAT! \O/

Besides, it's "Correlation" I think.
Gargaj: they only need to continuously wear Buenzli11 TShirts " Demomaking is not a crime" ;)
zest is a good man
'we deny being in fairlight' tshirts would do
Fairlight seems to be quite scattered. I guess that such a raid said to be concerning fairlight only concerns one section. Needless to say, US Officials are furious in their fight vs. warez and will accelerate in the future the efforts against "cyberterrorism" as which they seem to define the warezscene.
BTW in 1st of May, www.boxtorrents.com (provider of anime torrents) redirected it's site to www.cybercrime.gov but luckily it was changed to normal the next day... We were shocked :)

According to a press release on the dutch Department of Justice website, Fairlight was founded in the middle of the 90's, so apparantly they're either idiots who have their facts all wrong or they're just focussing with their investigation on a specific section of Fairlight.
and i dont want plek to flame this thread :)
imo gamescracking kinda sucks ( if you spread cracked stuff ), but non-entertainment-related software cracking _sometimes_ is cool.
btw most of good packers/protectors are coded by (ex)crackers...
