Aug, 14th 2024 CODE : .................................................... Tokra : : |-----------------------------------------------------------------------| : : SHORT DESCRIPTION: Quick demonstration of expanding the 4032-screen to 44x31 by using the CRTC INSTRUCTIONS: Just run the first file "start" on the d64. Please note if using VICE that you need at least version 3.8 r45227 or just download a recent snapshot-release from: https://github.com/VICE-Team/svn-mirror/releases BACKGROUND: While adapting my PETSTRIP-program to the PET/CBM 4032 I noticed that the video-controller-chip (CRTC) is similar to the VDC in the C128. It seems like the VDC was actually taking inspiration from these orignial CRTC-chips. A few other PET-demos already use the CRTC, like "No Pets allowed" or "Transactor" to do some effects not possible otherwise. My idea was to provide a larger screen-area and have it be accessible from BASIC. With the help of the Classic Computing-forum user CBM_Ba we found a CRTC-register setting that would provide a text-resolution of 44x31, or 1364 characters total, whis is exactly 36.4% more than the standard mode. Since the 4032 only has 1K of video-RAM I implemented a raster-interrupt- routine that shuffles the video-data around while it is being displayed. I also adapted a chunky-mode-graphics-routine from Compute-magazine to the higher resolution and added a Mandelbrot-program and .pgm-file-converter. See the short "test" and "test2"-BASIC-programs on disk to see how to use this mode and the chunky-mode-extension. : : |-----------------------------------------------------------------------| : : Original-forum-thread: https://forum.classic-computing.de/forum/index.php?thread/33249-h%C3%B6here-aufl%C3%B6sung-als-40x25-auf-cbm-4032/ Tokra, signing off, Aug, 14th 2024...
