Where Have All The Pixels Gone? by Carnegie Mellon Computer Club [web]
********************************************** * Where Have All The Pixels Gone? * * A cmucc Production * * Presented at PixelJam 2012 - April 14,2012 * ********************************************** This demo is our second release. After last year's Lisa insanity we decided to try our hand at a similarly uncommon and old platform, albeit one with a few more existing demos. What You Need: ============== You can watch this demo on either a real Vectrex or a Vectrex emulator. To watch on the real Vectrex, you'll need a Vectrex (obviously) and a multicart or other programmable Vectrex cartridge you can load the demo image onto. At the party, we used the VecMulti multicart. To watch on an emulator, all you need is the emulator and the demo image. It should play on ParaJVE or xmess without modification (an earlier version of this demo required using cartridge memory to be used as RAM, a feature of the VecMulti, but this is no longer required). ParaJVE appears to have difficulty emulating the music correctly, but its video looks nicer. Recently, xmess has undergone a major rewrite, and its rendering seems to have become less accurate. Use of a slightly older xmess version is suggested. Needless to say, we suggest watching on a real Vectrex. Instructions: ============= Either load the ROM image (filename) into your emulator, or follow the directions for your multicart to load the ROM image into it, then start your emulator or Vectrex and enjoy. Video Captures: =============== At the party, video was produced by xmess and audio provided by a Vectrex running the demo in sync. DVI output is still in the works... ;) Two videos have been released in case you don't have a Vectrex handy. One is a camera capture of a real Vectrex with audio recorded from a break-out connector on a custom de-buzzing amplifier attached to the main logic board. The second is a combination of a video capture from the ParaJVE emulator and the same audio stream as the camera capture since, of course, nothing compares to a real AY. In actuality, the occasional visible pulsating is less visible on a real Vectrex to the human eye and is exacerbated by discrete camera shutter or screen capture intervals.
