Navis's info files usually contain a wealth of information about the making of the production. So in that vein, here goes: Gina asked (when I was wasted at Breakpoint - good tactic) if I would like to help out on a multi-group co-op invite for Realtime Generation. I said "ok" with various conditions, such as "if fiver2 does the graphics"; "if I dont have to code anything"; and "if I can get some more booze". And then I completely forgot about it. Fast forward to after breakpoint, and I get the mail from Gina - "great that you agreed to help out! it should contain such and such information!". Well, I was about to mail back and say "sorry, but.." as I really didn't fancy getting into another big production straight after BP. But then I talked about it to Navis and he persuaded me it would be possible to do something pretty simple and small. Besides, what's the last thing people would expect if we did a co-op? Something totally and utterly conventional and typically "demo-style". They'll never see that one coming! We threw a few ideas around and something developed using a pulsing ball and cubey background. This conveniently required artwork that could easily be made by relative simpletons (e.g. two coders). In just a few hours on a saturday morning I had the skeleton of the demo down. Navis made the rest of the graphics, and I managed to suck in Keito to make the track, which he did most of from scratch in a single night. Then around a week more work followed, mainly tweaking the engine to properly support motion blur, fixing the performance on NVPerfHUD and arguing about the font. Soon enough, we were done. Of course, if Navis had coded it it would have ran on an FX5600 and taken half the space.
