Yep, it's our first 'BIG' demo (900 Kb !!!). More quality to expect in the future. Routines have to be improved badly, but to give you something to fill this time-gap we released this demo. It cost me a week to produce this, so don't expect miracles. My opinion is, that after one week of work the result is worth the while. I hope you agree. I (Jeroen that is) did the sampling and all the graphix stuff. I 'borrowed' the castle of the magnificent (and old) game "PRINCE OF PERSIA" as you might notice. The samples are not packed or whatever, because I wanted to maintain high quality. (In the future these samplesizes will even be bigger, when soundblaster-PRO stereo-demo's appear on the scene, which also use sampled sounds insteat of a .MOD). Marcel assisted me with the I/O routines. Everything is securely tested on a 286-16Mhz with soundblaster-PRO. I ran into some problems while testing on 8 Mhz. Therefore the graphics routines had to be slightly adjusted for this speed. In the mean time, Alwin was (and still is) working on a great, great sample-editor for WINDOWS (almost ready !). So keep your ears and eyes open for that one. * ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// * REQUIREMENTS. - The demo runs smoothly on a 286-system or higher (XT performance has not been tested). - VGA color/monochrome display - Any soundblastercard version is ok. - MS-DOS 5.0 with HIMEM.SYS. You must have at least 550+ Kb of free base-memory (BASE ! (HOW LOW CAN YOU GO !)). * ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// * PARAMETERS. The program defaults to irq 7 and address 220h. If your card is setup with different irq or adress you can add the following : NOISE /irq /adress If you want to change the defaults, you have to add both parameters, else the program will use irq 7 and adress 220h. It might be easier to make a batch file, so that you won't have to add those parameters each time you run the demo. * ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// * SHAREWARE. This demo is shareware and can be spread freely, as long as no money is charged for it. Furthermore it is not allowed to change and/or modify the files (as listed below) or use those files in or with any other program than this demo. The author is not responsible for any hardware and/or software damage due to misuse of this program. The 'Art Of Noise' demo consists of the following files : - NOISE.EXE - ART.DAT - NOISE1.DAT - NOISE2.DAT - NOISE.ME * ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// * THE GROUP SONIX. Marcel van der Lem and me (Jeroen Koomen) both study at the INSI (nowadays called 'I&I', Haagse Hogeschool. Alwin Hoogerdijk just has become an "ingenior" by finishing his study 'Neurological Networks' at the TU in Delft (Is he that smart ? We shall see .... ). We are working on a great sample-editor for DOS (only soundblaster PRO). It looks just like our earlier beta-release of "SEDIT". You want to have the beta-version of "SEDIT" ? First let me tell you some more about this editor. SEDIT is a full-screen sample-editor. It can handle VOC-, WAV- and RAW sample formats. Stereosamples from the soundblaster PRO are automatically converted to mono samples of 22Khz. Here's a snatch of the options : ECHO, FADE-IN/OUT, REVERB, OUTPUT-LEVEL INDICATOR, MERGE, MIX, RELOAD, DOUBLE, HALVE, BRIGHTNESS, MUTE, CUT, COPY, FILTERS, TUBE-EFFECT, CREATING YOUR OWN SOUNDS, A POPUP KEYBOARD (allows you to play tunes with the sample loaded), REVERSE, FINETUNE etc. etc. If you are interested you can contact us. * ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// * Interested in more ? Suggestions ? This demo hangs your system ? Our mailing adress is : SONIX Productions Kraaienveld 34 2727 BP Zoetermeer We want to send our greets to every group in Holland who write stuff for soundblaster. We don't know any of 'em, maby we will in the near future. I hope we meet again in our next release, or at the INSI in 'The Hague'. signed : by me.
