   This demo was made to compete at the Assembly'94 convention   º   ÛÛ     ÛÛ
   held in the beginning of August in Helsinki, Finland.         º   ÛÛ     ÛÛ
   We were very happy to achieve a second place in the competi-  º   ÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜ
   tion, earning a total of 726 points (175 points away from the º   ßßßßßßßÛÛ
   winner but still a fair 313 points left to the third place).  º       Û  ÛÛ
      Assembling the demo took less than one week from idea to   º   ÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛß
   competition EXE-file, but naturally most of the coding and    º   ÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜ
   our tailor-made tools we used for the demo was programmed in  º   ÛÛßßßßßÛÛ

   known Imphobia diskmagazine as well as demos and other kinds  º    ÜÜÜÜÜÜÜ

   We are frequently asked about our VR-project so we though we  º          ÛÛ

      One year ago we started developing a VR-platform which is  º          ÛÛ
   based on the PC architecture. The system is being developed   º   ÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜ
   for a Pentium/P6 multiprocessor environment to make perfor-   º   ßßßßßßßßß
   mance improvements easy by just adding more processors.       º   ÜÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÜ
      The system will support 6 degrees of steering freedom for  º   ÛÛ     ÛÛ
   a truthful perceptance of realistic movement in all direct-   º   ÛÛÜÜÜÜÜÛÛ
   ions and in any angle.                                        º    ßßßßßßß

   Among the graphical features our 3D-engine supports are:      º   ßßßßßßßÛÛ

   So that everyone could enjoy this demo we had to reduce the   º   ÛÛßßßßßßß
   graphics to 320x200 in 256 colours. Our system normally runs  º   ÛÛ
   at 640x400 in truecolor which greatly improves the realism.   º   ÛÛ

   The sound consists of both multiple 3D sounds that match the  º   ßßßßßßßßß
   visual events in the 3D world and some background 'movie'     º   ÜÜ   ÜÜÜ

   All this in 48KHz 16-bit CD-quality sound.                    º   ÛÛ  Û  ÛÛ

      Holistic requires a i386 processor with a  standard VGA card and 4MB   º
      4MB total memory (2,8MB available extended memory and 590KB base) to   º
      run at all.  We recommend  you to run it on a i486DX/66, preferrably   º
      with VLB and a Gravis Ultrasound card  (of course the optimal config   º
      would be a Pentium with  PCI and all that  stuff or whatever  is the   º
      most powerful processor when you read this.  ;)  However we STRONGLY   º
      recommend you to run the demo with a soundcard.  Silent demos are so   º
      boring (and besides if you run the demo in silence you won't be able   º
      to enjoy Zodiak's jolly music..!). Go get a Gravis.                    º

      Of course we still support  the SoundBlaster, SoundBlaster16 & Covox   º
      cards besides  the Gravis Ultrasound,  even though you should have a   º
      Gravis card to achieve the best possible sound quality.                º

      When you've watched the demo hopefully you'll understand why we want   º
      you to do it on a fast 486. The code is not slow or very unoptimized   º
      - it just requires a great deal of machine power -.                    º
      Just in case someone is wondering - this demo is _NOT_ an animation!   º
            > Everything is _realtime_ calculated by your machine. <         º
      Of course if we had had another 1-5 days to finish the demo we could   º
      have added fancy bitmaps, more music, maybe even some design........   º
      We do know for sure though that if we don't release this demo now we   º
      will never  get around to it so it's  better to bring you this as it   º
      is, get it off our shoulders and move towards the next project.        º
      Please have some patience  after the setup-screen.  Loading the demo   º
      may take a while as basically all the data is loaded into the memory   º

      We suspect that you may encounter problems on some computers if you    º
      choose to execute the demo with only HIMEM.SYS loaded.                 º
      The demo is supposed to work fine with any memory manager like QEMM    º
      EMM386, CEMM and 386^MAX, so if you have one of these you shouldn't    º
      have any difficulties in starting the demo.If the demo fails to run    º
      with only HIMEM.SYS installed, please try loading a memory manager.    º
      You can try with HIMEM.SYS loaded first if you want though, on most    º
      configurations it should run perfectly like that.                      º
                                                                             º
      The demo  won't report if there is not  enough base memory free, so    º
      you'd better check that yourself. Holistic requires 590KB base mem.    º
      SoundBlaster16 owners MUST choose SoundBlaster16 in the Setup.         º
