YOU can do the thinking otherwise. : About 1.7 mb of free *EMS* + about 620k of free base memory. . VESA compatible video card with 1 Mb of memory. SB or GUS or any other card with wires going to your audio system. * This demo was designed to work best with 488DX2-66 * To get maximum memory available for the demo, run pure EMM386/QEMM without Smartdrv, GMouse, etc, etc, etc (preferably QEMM). * If you are a lucky owner of 486DX-33 and Sound Blaster, we strongly recommend not to run the demo with sampling rate more than 22KHz. * Some parts of our demo use high-resolution VESA modes, therefore if your computer is known as a trouble-maker in this field, then run UNIVBE or any program which installs VESA driver v1.2+. ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄ--- -- Ä Ä ù ù ù ÚÙ ³ GENERAL INFO - ³ | This demo was made especially for MOVEMENT'95 - the first | Israeli demo competition (FINALLY!). We probable wouldn't make : the demo otherwise. ...On second thought - WE as a group . probably wouldn't exist either, and ain't it a terrifying thought??? The music was made especially for the demo. Practically each graphic effect got it's own music, that means, more than ten different tunes. Way to go, musicians! (the musicians pat themselves on the back) ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄ--- -- Ä Ä ù ù ù ÚÙ ³ A LITTLE BIT OF OUR YOUNG, YET EXCITING (?) HISTORY - ³ | I (the name is Skyer, btw), met Adept about 2-3 years ago, | as we were learning at the same (f...ing) school. Then began my : career of programmer. About a year later I got a stupid (at the time) . idea of making a 3D rotating box. So, as my pascal skill were far from being great, I started to bug Adept to help me with this one... And that is how it all began. So naturally, when I heard about him joining the competition, I decided to join HIM. At a later stage Bahc came along, as a blessing from sky (...well, kinda :). This is what he had to add to the history...: I had been trying to organize a demo team for months. I had found artists, composers, and other people of artistic nature, but (unfortunately) - I couldn't find any coders. Then, one day, a miracle happened, I got a call from Nyc. Nyc said - "Hey Bahc, you were trying to form a demo group, right? I found two coders who are looking for artists and mod writers, know any?". And from there the group Esteem (after much debate - we had around hundred other names) came into existence. This demo was completed with much pain and sweat at the last minute, we almost had to hang Paso (it was close..), but, as you can see, it was worth it (not the part that we didn't hang Paso - we still regret it :). ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄ--- -- Ä Ä ù ù ù ÚÙ ³ THE MOVEMENT'95 - ³ | Before : | : Well, I feel kinda like a blind man... None of us knows what . to expect. When you are making a demo for ASM'99, you can think ahead - "Yep, there's going to be FC, Triton, Cascada, - piece of cake! 10th place guaranteed!". Here you say - "Okay, we are going to compete against.... hmmm.... Oh, right, i got it! Another five groups! No problem, I know exactly what they are going to present!". But we don't. There is no information about any other group that is going to compete (besides their name, if you'r lucky). We don't have the slightest idea what chances we have (as little as they might be :) to win the compo. 05:12am party morning. We're in deep shit. After : This part was written about a week after Movement. WE WON! :) Wanna hear about it...? Okay, here goes. How we (Adept and me) got to the party, is a bizarre story. Here is a brief version of it : GOD DAMN BUS DRIVERS! We were wandering around town for a couple of hours before we got there! The description of the place was lousy. But let's skip to the part when we were already there. Oh, wait! Just wanted to add that I recognized the place (for sure) when i saw the bald shiny head of DNA, talking to some folks outside :). The moment I walked in I understood that we were definitely not the only ones who had not finished their production. Next thing I know, I'm being dragged somewhere by a short kid I didn't recognize shouting, "Where the Hell Have you BeeN!?". The kid was Bahc, it was the first time we saw him. He dragged us into a room and pointed to a computer. With a crazed look in his eyes he said, "FiNiSh dEmo NOW!". The demo was due in 6 hours, and it DID get finished (well, after 5 hours and 59 minutes:) Chapter 198. MOVEMENT'95. The only thing I regret is that I didn't enjoyed it since I was always on running around trying to get our demo together. Paso was late by a few hours... Bahc suddenly started to show a great interest in organizing (HeY! I was VERY organized! You just didn't appreciate my type of organization...:) The projector refused to show a decent view in high resolution... The music around was so loud that i had to use the loudspeakers as a headphones to hear something... Adept, a few hours before the competition, got an idea to add some effect to the demo, and was so anxious to implement it we had to drag him away from the computer... Ed with a progressively scarier face was asking when the hell can he use the computer to draw his picture for GFX compo... I hadn't slept for about 40 hours (like many others)... Civax was running around shouting some (probably interesting) stuff... Bahc was running around calling companies and other than that, everything was nice and relaxed :) Five minutes before the competition the demo was copied to diskettes (Paso's feelings were hardly pride when he heard we used his disks and they weren't coming back)... I was far from being sure that everything would run properly and I didn't find out until we ran the demo. Then the wait began... Until the last second I didn't know if we won, but we did :) Now seriously (like it was funny before). The organization was quite good. The competition was tougher than I thought. DNA was bald. Civax looked much cooler than on the picture. The place was not exactly as I imagined (go figure :). DNA was bald. The competitions were interesting. Especially when they showed some intros from Assembly'95, and you were sure that it was made by one of your competitors. I almost had a heart attack when they showed one intro by Camorra. But what was really strange was a demo by some israeli group (the name slipped my mind). It seemed like they didn't use virtual screen, cuz everything was flicking, nevertheless, they were using impressive 3d graphics, and had a nice virtual reality. About the other demos - well, watching them was like a series of bad news and good news. The bad news - everybody had an israeli flag, the good new was that we had the best one. The good news was that ULC got an "Run-time error ...", the bad news that it was a joke (good one :). The bad news - other demos were good, the best news - WE WON! Anyway, part of our music was written there, and we also found some bugs we had to fix, that is why we were the last one to hand in the demo. I think I heard the final version of all the music at the competition itself, and I wasn't disappointed :). The total length of the source is approximately : 20,000 lines. . The music was written in ST3, of course. Some art was done in 3D-studio, and some in... some other programs (why ta do i always get to write about stuff i don't have the slightest idea about :). (Bahc says, the shadow demon thingy was made by Insane Tilt in Animator and alot of stuff used Adobe Photoshop) The music in our demo was played by BWSB sound system made by Edward Schlunder. Thanks, man! You saved us a lot of work! (It's the last time we use it - it's screwed up a lot, too :) Okay, now a little bit more personal... This demo, as told earlier, is our first demo. Since we couldn't just pick up the phone, call Future Crew, and ask them like - "Say, how da-hell did you do that?" or "Come on guys!! What's keeping you so long? You've promised to send me those sources!", - we had to do everything the hard way. And believe me, making a demo with a couple of guys, when the only connection between you is a couple of hundred telephone calls - is not the easiest task. Although I know most groups work this way, it is a questionable consolation...
