Elemental Illusions features phong polygon graphics, a 24bit picture, fire, plasma, galaxies, lots of 3D points, and a thumping sound track. Running Elemental Illusions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EI requires 550K conventional memory (it will start but not finish on 540K - you will not see the credits), and about 1024K of EMS memory should be enough if you want to play the music as well. EI uses 386 code, but does not make use of floating point co-processors, so it will run on as little as a 386SX, but performance is crippled on anything less than a 486DX2. EI has been tested on 486DX2-66, P120 and 686-120 computers with varying sound qualities and found to run satisfactorily on the 486, very nicely on the Pentium, and damn fine on the 686. We suggest that for 486's using digital sound (ie. Sound Blasters, not GUS) you do not use sound settings above 22kHz 8bit stereo. You should only try full 16bit 44kHz stereo sound if you have a P120 or above. This is because timing is done to how fast your computer is without sound playing, so if playing the tunes takes up a large slice of your processor (like it can on a 486) then some sections will struggle to go to completion.
