Example of works in the end of the millenary. This runs on Pentium 133Mhz with supersampling x2 and near to 8000 polygons in realtime. The awakening of graphic cards made my works obsolètes but it still works fine.

smooth looking but the object / colors / contrast is ugly (not fault of the code), video please

It's quite interesting to release these stuff, I am gonna have a look at it later after work when I boot my Pentium laptop.

Looks great for it's time.

Oh, and I simply love that nowadays, people request youtube videos even for _tools_ :D

this is not a tool, and I beg your pardon for not having a p133 at home. nor the patience to fuck with dosbox for 30 minutes to take a 1 minute look at this.

Looks very nice for what it is. I found that I could press Z and X to rotate around the viewing direction, are there any other controls?

Well, I actually saw it in dosbox (too lazy to bring back my pentium laptop atm) and I like it technically. Even though there is not much to see. Will try the keys though, nice to think it's realtime (multisampling is so good that it makes it feel like a prerendered fli anim, which is cool).

where is the note "23806 faces" ?!!

I do not remember if there are more control keys.
Near 9000 faces in supersampling 2x for this. It was running in 15ms an image on Pentium 133Mhz in 1999. On a Pentium 500Mhz, I could run a dozen of this mesh with environment map.

Pretty cool actually, even with nil content

well, exactly, without shadows it's 8400 faces... ;)

this period of my life was developping games with my own capacities.
I've built a street fighter in 3d without near naked woman, on a plate and on environment, a demo of spaceship running, a car game better than mariocart etc. I was working in multiple level editors etc.

then I've got a job, where I was obliged to code with GeForce256 and DX7.
I've finnished near 30 games for the company I was working, and my health make me loose my job.

I thought that demoscene was not a correct way to develop myself, and in reality, demosceners are not rigorous enough and finally booze makes me fail with various medecine.

Video from Pentium MMX at 125 MHz

rulez added on the 2013-10-13 02:43:57 by enigma enigma
it seems video capture makes the whole slower. on my pentium 133 it was running in 75% of the vertical retrace. btw, the basic of this inspired me the proceeding of pixel shaders to various options of rendering and generic polygon fillers; at the same time, GeForce 256 got GPU naming.

The video is captured from VGA, so it doesn't influence the executing PC. It is originally a P166 MMX where I switched turbo off => FSB 50 MHz. So the CPU is approximately as fast as the P133 due to the increased L1 cache size. However the PCI bus runs at 25 MHz.
I didn't wanted to use a much faster PC as you suggested, as it would just run at max speed. You could however include some indicator how much time one frame takes by adding a border color change, millisecond timer, value output on exit or something else.

Nice, too bad it wasn´t released back then.

And come on, how hard can it be to unpack this release in some directory and starting dosbox with it? (Hint: If it takes you more than 10 seconds then you´re doing it WRONG)

Pretty cool for those times - seeing that kind of rendering quality surprised me :)

Barti: get a bunch of your old stuff together and hack up another pentium demo :)
